I said Stanford. Yes, they have a bad loss, but at this point so does everyone else. More to the point, they've improved markedly since the preseason. Yes, they got upset at home last weekend, but USC is a quality team -- and besides, show me a #1 contender who didn't?
Washington and Nebraska are my other contenders for "best". Nebraska has had bouts with inconsistency, culminating in an embarrassing loss. Though it saddens me to say so, Washington has had similar troubles; they just managed to avoid the embarrassing loss.
All of this could change by before the regular season ends.

I say Nebraska for regular season. But once the NCAA tourney starts I doubt they can finish it out. They play a good season schedule, but when they have to play 2 hard matches in 3 days, they can not rely on Pavan/Larson. I think with the way the PAC-10 plays their regular season, I give them the clear advantage. So for post-season I am going with a PAC-10 team, which I think will favor USC or Washington. Those teams have many options to get them where they want to go.

Stanford will not lose a match for the rest of the season.

I see Nebraska falling into the same predicament that UH has itself in.....neither school wants to travel and both schools have the ability to stay home, for completely different reasons I might add, and play everyone in pre-season at their houses.....Hawaii because everyone wants a junket to the Island and Nebraska because they can afford to pay the expenses of everyone who comes to be their next prey. This is great for the home crowd to be sure, but in Hawaii's case their conference sucks so they get little road experience against really good opponents(sorry UH, but NMSU is not a high calibre opponent), thus if they have to travel in the tournament which is inevitable in todays world they run into trouble.....to some degree the end result is the same for Nebraska....their conference is better than the WAC to be sure but they still get very confortable playing two thirds of their matches in front of the friendly old farts at home and they too will travel at tournement time and of course will get beaten on the road by the Colorado's of the world......I think that Cook just feels that his team is good enough to get away with playing at home all the time.....well they weren't this weekend, and well you know what they say about the tournement? That's why they play the matches.....

I think Nebraska would benefit from out of conference matches on the road mid to late season. I'm not sure how much benefit playing them in early September helps you in December??
