I really don't feel like getting into it with you today. You have your opinion and I have mine. And yes, I have lived quite a few places in my lifetime. Sadly, you're a prime example of why I wonder why I ever get involved with message boards. This is about VOLLEYBALL - not why you think my town sucks. Pay no attention to the man behind the toupee'.

We all have preconceptions of places/things. Without having been there, I know I have generalized (and probably erroneous) views of some places as just a step above an outhouse. St. Andrews Prebyterian College in Laurinburg, NC is one. Prior to the visit, I thought it was going to be some hick college populated by Billy Bobs and Mary Jos. Turned out to be false. It is one of the most beautiful campuses you have never heard of. Situated around a lake, this picturesque campus makes you feel like you're in Utopia and that there's nothing in the outside world.
I've never been to NMSU and Las Cruces, NM, but I'm sure it's better than an outhouse. And perhaps more.

That's Las Crucible!

Perhaps someone is bitter that his men's team got swept by the Rainbow Warriors this year?

I love the pics that the Honolulu advertiser put out on the net! I had goose bumps just looking at them! I mean, if any volleyball player thinking of playing in Hawaii should see these pics and how wonderful the Stan Sheriff Center is and the fans are. The players are treated like celebrities and rockstars, everyone supports the seniors, the players and coaches, and the atmosphere is awesome. Not to mention Shoji's coaching staff has been awesome. No better place than Hawaii than volleyball.

The players are treated like celebrities and rockstars, Another perspective is that the players are also treated like everyone's daughters or nieces or sisters. They are put up on a pedestal like celebrities and rockstars, but at the same time, there is a certain familiarity that makes them feel like part of the family. I know that some girls find this reassuring . . . they want to try out their independence and get away from home, but it's nice knowing there's a safety net of teammates, coaches, etc. that can help them go through the maturation process.

Beachman:
I wish there were more Californians that thought like you. Unfortunately, too many are moving here to the Mesilla Valley from their overpriced homes in California, and driving up real estate prices.
If New Mexico had more people like you, we would have fewer people like you, and that would suit me just fine. For now, why don't you go watch gamefilm of byegone Long Beach glory days, and leave mbrooks alone.
You weren't invited into this conversation, which was about NMSU-Hawaii volleyball--it wasn't about Las Cruces, and it sure wasn't about that overpriced, live on the fault line, everybody-wants-to-visit-nobody-can-afford-to-stay locale that you call home.

A poster doesn't need an invitation to participate in a thread in a public forum. However, he would need one for a wedding.

No better place than Hawaii than volleyball. Plus the fact that you have thousands of miles of ocean between you and the mainland means you don't have to worry about those nasty drop in visits by friends and relatives. And, you won't be distracted by being able to drive to different places around the country. You are on an island. In the middle of the ocean.

You are on an island. In the middle of the ocean. Thanks for that enlightening tidbit. To each his own. I'm sure it's much better to be in the frozen tundra where friends and family can stop by anytime. Plus you can always drive to South Dakota.
