For those who live outside of California and didn't get to see the Fox Sports West live broadcast of the CIF Southern Section Division 1-AA championship match between Mira Costa and Redondo Union, I am officially announcing that Steve Obradovich is the absolute worst volleyball announcer in the history of our sport.
While it was nice to see Paul Sunderland doing play-by-play for volleyball again, Karch and Obradovich really did a poor job providing color for the broadcast.
Sounded like a big bunch of South Bay grabass when every other sentence is
"Oh, I know so-and-so's cousin's sister who played on the beach with us back in 1981"
or
"Player XYZ's mom buys her double-expresso iced vanilla latte at the same corner Starbuck's that I like to take my daughter's to after they finish up club practice."
Karch was off his game tonight as well, broadcast wise.

I would have to agree. Obradovich shoud never had been behind the mic. I think he through Karch off.

Does anyone ever notice that Karch, when he interviews people, often forgets to transfer the microphone from under his mouth to under the other person's when they speak?

I've never seen Karch "on" his game when announcing/color commentating and I've witnessed a bunch. This is obviously not his forte.

I totally agree about Obradovich......he really sucks.....Karch, who knows very little about women's volleyball, and he made an extraordinarly poor team last night and some of their overall general comments about Women's Indoor Volleyball in this country were so far off the mark that it isn't funny.....maybe those two had better open their eyes and see what USA Volleyball is doing for the women's game(or not doing).....they also need to look at the level of the competition in the world game and then maybe they would understand why we have the problems that we have.....to make comments like Klinemann and Barboza are the "second coming" and the potential saviours of USA Women's Volleyball is very naeve!

I always find it interesting when folks who have very little first hand(or even second hand) experience with respect to the international game make statements about who will and who won't be a star on that level.....We are NOT turning out players from our colleges who can compete internationally, and when we get on who may have that potential they are now looking at the Beach, thanks to Misty and Keri!

Holly insisted that Louisville's coach lost confidence in his setter and made a switch to the backup... that they've been doing this all year makes no difference.
I would just think that they'd do a little research on the teams they're to cover before going on air.
I still cringe when I see Heather Cox with a mike in her hand.
I sort of enjoyed OB's added commentary. Not particularly smooth but at least a lot of it was accurate and different.
