FOR ALL THE MARBLES Heading into the final weekend of the season WASHINGTON and STANFORD find themselves locked into a first place tie. That tie will be broken on Friday night when the two teams face off for the Pac-10 title at Maples Pavilion. FSN will televise the match with Bill Macdonald calling the action, while Karch Kiraly and Holly McPeak provide color commentary.

Most FSN Pac-10 Matches of the Week have not been on live, either in a local market or on satellite (if the match involves an L.A. team, is in a major metro area where FSN can rent a fancy production truck and is not opposite high-school football, there's a chance... that's how Stanford at USC ended up live in L.A. and on satellite). This one is not available live anywhere... it is the usual melange of tape delays. For example, it's on Saturday at 1:00 PM PST on DirecTV Channel 653 (FSPT). If you want live, listen to Rebecca Harlow (KZSU's lead volleyball play-by-play announcer) on MP3 streams linked at URL kzsulive.stanford.edu

I'll attend live to see this battle between the elite super-powers of Women's College Volleyball. Forget the NCAA tournament and its contrived one and done format. Every Pac-10 team plays a home and home match with every other team. This match is like this year's Ohio St./Michigan game in football.

Elite super-powers now. Wow. I guess sometimes "super-powers" just isn't enough, eh? And what a unique format! Every Pac-10 team plays a home and home? How do they think of these things? BASTA!
