My question is, was Hittle getting those numbers of kills playing on the RS? Or was she also hitting from the LS as well? I ask this, because, the UTEP match (according to the stats sheet from that link above), Arnott played 2 games only, Hittle playing 3 games. It also looks like Arnott was yanked from the court and Fotu went in, since Fotu played one game during that match. good point ... and honestly, I have no idea. I remember Hittle playing LS for part of a match... but i don't know how many times that occurred. In the links I provided, this might have been the case only for the UTEP match. In the FSU, match the left side hitters played all 4 games as did Hittle, so Hittle likely played right throughout. And the Nevada match was a 5-gamer, so I doubt Shoji would have been freely experimenting with the lineup, unless he was inserting a bench player for a struggling starter.

How was the passing when these girls had so many attempts per game? It seems to me that right now Hawaii has a bit of trouble setting the Middles and the RS? What was it like in 2004? If you've never seen a match from 2004, they were some of the most fun, exciting matches as a Wahine fan. It was team that truly lacked the firepower of its opponents, but they had the heart of a lion and never gave up. A 30-1 season I think. They had solid passing in Watanabe, Hittle, Boogaard, Arnott, and Fotu. It was the passing and defense that allowed Kamana'o to work her magic. If the 2006 team had the passing and defensive abilities of the 2004 team, they would easily be a top 8 team right now.

The question remains ~ if Hittle showed early on that she could be so effective from the RS, why didn't Hawaii use the option more often? After all, that was the year of the Cardiac Keiki, wasn't it? It almost illustrates my point that regardless of the termination ability from the RS, it just isn't a part Hawaii's game plan. for 2004, i think you could chalk it up to Hittle being a freshman, nothing more than that. and like any freshman, no matter how talented will have their days when they will play like freshman.... no doubt, Hittle has matured and improved since then. if she's healthy next year, playing her on the right could open up a solid and consistent offensive threat for them...

If Hittle does play RS, who do you think will play LS besides Houston? I don't know if Arnott or Keefe are able to dominate the way Mason can. For this reason, I think Hittle will stay on the LS for 2007 and Arnott, Keefe, and Kaufman will battle for the RS. This is assuming no Otineru or no transfers.
