It's kinda wierd, I looked at the box score and Michigan had a higher hitting pctg. yet, Quirarte had a career high 25 kills at a .680 pctg and Brandt set an alltime assist high at 73! Wow, way to close out the regular season!

With wins over top 25 Wisconsin and Pepperdine they should be in...even with the few bad losses thrown in.

I got a little worried in that third game.....for you guys.....you have the same problem that LBS has,,,,,left side hitters are weak, very weak....

Put UCSB in my tournament at #64; probably more for sentimental reasons, but they did play their usual representative pre-season schedule and had a few wins.Pretty amazing job to get to NCAA bubble after losing Sandell, Johansen and Dutro, at least, to transfers. Saw them play Stanford and Cal Poly; looked pretty weak both times, and yes, I agree they looked ineffective at the outside hitter position.

Congrats to UCSB for a solid win in a critical match. Several players were at their best in this match-- Brandt set a UCSB school record for assists (73) led the team in digs and had 3 aces- great performance by a freshman. Waldowski hit .452 with 4 blocks, Quirarte hit .622 and had 3 blocks, Garbisch adds 3 aces- all 3 had big plays at crucial points in the match. UCSB's quick attack (Waldowski, Quirarte and Brandt) is the best in the Big West and offsets some of the obvious weakness pointed out by other posters.
UCSB played like a team deserving of an NCAA bid.

This should be fun to watch.....

UCSB has 3 wins over tournament teams. Wisconsin, Albany & Pepperdine. For the bubble teams, I believe that wins over ranked teams is more important than bad losses. Bad losses have happened to many good teams this year for a variety of reasons. You have to show that you are capable of beating good teams to deserve consideration in the tournament. Santa Barbara unforunately had an ankle injury to one of their middles, which had a great deal to do with their 3 game skid during the season. That same middle had 25 kills last night against a Western Michigan team that played Ohio very tough during the season. Gauchos have shown that, when healthy, they can compete with many of the top teams. They should be in.
*UCSB took Long Beach to 5 games at Long Beach with everyone healthy. Then with middle blocker injured lost in 3 at home. This player makes that much of a difference in losses to Long Beach, Irvine & Fullerton.

They're in. Past tournament schools always seem to get the nod, like Pacific when they were like 17-13 in 2003 going into the tournament. The only ranked team UOP beat that year was Santa Clara, I believe. Pacific did make it to the 2nd round that year. Although UCSB should make it in, I'm afraid they may go one and done.
And when was Albany, currently ranked 136 on Pablo, a tournament team?

Ya, I figure if we get in, we'll be on the home court of one of the top Pac 10 teams for the first round.

And when was Albany, currently ranked 136 on Pablo, a tournament team? They won their league and got the automatic bid into the tournament.
