Oklahoma did put in for a bid. It isn't so much the seating capacity, its the locker rooms. the NCAA wants five locker tooms, with showers and lockers. One for each team and one for the refs. I think McCausland is one short.

The thing I don't get is Cal Poly. I know they're seeded, but they're about 100 miles from Santa Barbara and about 180 miles from the closest major airport (San Jose). Regardless of the actual matchup, this could have been at Cal which I believe put in a bid for Thu/Fri (basketball tournament on the weekend).

LSU and Purdue are in for a surprise, I think; Heading to sunny, cosmopolitan Salifornia they will find Cal Poly to be the empitomy of the rural college town, with the closest major airport in Los Angeles, 3 hours away, and Santa Barbara probably their destination by air, another hour and a half to the campus. Gym is a fieldhouse. I agree LSU got the short end of the stick; understand that if you seeded all the teams Cal Poly an LSU would both be around the 16 mark, so them playing is not bad, but including Cal, and Michigan, who's RPKPI is probably pretty low, really strengthens the reional; no Sienas allowed. and why LSU hast to travel and Arkansas hosts is beyond me. I guess LSU can charter a plane with Mississippi who is also on the wa out here.

Here's my theory on Purdue: Ohio was going to host this sub-regional until they lost to Louisville. . My third or fourth hand report says that Ohio didn't put in a bid.

Again - there's a women's basketball tournament on Saturday/Sunday and a men's basketball game on Wednesday night.

I heard Ohio was in line to host, not Louisville...Talked to a fan who said Ohio ended up not being able to put a bid in due to a scheduling conflict, that sucks if its true.

Oklahoma has an easy subregional regardless of whether or not they're seeded or on the road!

Stop your whining. You know nothing about Hofstra and you are making a judgement based upon a school name.

I know you won't pay too much attention to this, assuming I am just making excuses for Purdue, but keep in mind, when it comes to chosing host sites, that travel is consideration. When I have been talking to people about Purdue hosting, the question I have kept asking is, but who are the teams that can drive? Louisville? Kentucky? THey found St Louis, which I didn't see, and also Ohio, who I assumed was going to Columbus. This seems to be the holdup on Minnesota hosting, no? UNI went to Lincoln. Who else is within 400 miles of Minneapolis? Not enough teams from the area. Friends from Norman have been talking about Oklahoma hosting. Same problem. UNI, Iowa State and WI-Milwaukee. Not that all 3 needed to be. They could have flown Cal here, for instance. So it's not just 400 miles, it's being CLOSER to Madison? So this means we NEVER host?

I think Arkansas got the biggest gift. I just looked at the Rich Kern RPI and Purdue was ranked 13th and to 21st. The Badger Alum needs to get his fact straight. I am sure that is why they got to host and they are the most central located of the four team . I would have had no problem with Ohio being seeded. However, if Ohio got the seed, I think Purdue still would have hosted because of location. . Dayton was a team who could have made the dance. They went out and played the best teams possible.

So it's not just 400 miles, it's being CLOSER to Madison? So this means we NEVER host? Never say never. If the Dakota schools start making the tournament, it will help. Unfortunately, as long as Nebraska keeps hosting, that will be a problem, too. OTOH, given that they just did this to Minnesota a couple of years ago, this would have been a good time to send Wisconsin packing, if someone has to go. How close is St Louis to Minneapolis up the Avenue of the Sts? They could have gone Notre Dame to Purdue, and then St Louis to Minnesota, along with the other teams going to Madison. Of course, the committee has shown a lot of love for Wisconsin in the past, kind of similar to what Purdue has seen.

That's the thing that really bothers me. History does not appear to enter into it. If a team receives a favor one year, why do they receive one the next? Especially if there is another team which has been shown NO favors?

No. 600+.
Ames, however, is much closer to Mpls than it is to Madison.
