The biggest winners??// How about Texas and Florida.....next comes Nebraska,,,,easily the easiest of the four regionals!! If you take all of the teams and average their rankings in each region then Nebraska has the weakest region. If you take only the 4 seeded teams and average their rankings then Nebraska has the toughest regional matches.

But then I'll say the same thing about Milwaukee and Minneapolis... ~280 miles from Ames to Madison ~336 mles from Milwaukee to Minneapolis ~275 miles from Cedar Rapids to Minneapolis ~214 miles from Ames to Minneapolis The committee apparently didn't look very hard at teams within driving range of Minneapolis.

JHAM -- I think he's saying MN will host a regional, as opposed to a sub-regional. In any case, that raises an interesting point: How early are the regional sites chosen? Is the poster suggesting that sites have already been selected (but not announced) for 2007 regionals?

I will also go on record as saying pre-determined regional sites sucketh, and it really suckeths that they are repeating sites already -- even if Minnesota gets another one.

Agreed, but you can't blame the MN SID (or any school for that matter) for bidding and trying to get a regional if they think there is any chance they might get one.

Nope. You have to play the game by the rules, even when the rules stink.

The committee has to have an idea who will get Regionals next year, particularly with bids in already. With the potential for huge apathy, (read Texas A & M last year, couple hundred fans at the regional final) they will stick with rapid fans/sure thing teams. Finals in Sacramento, so with Stanford 2 hours away no regional there or anywhere else in the Bay Area. Presumably won't repeat, so Hawaii, washington, Texas,, Florida out. Leaves Nebraska, who won't get a regional the next year, probably Penn State, then I think Minnesota and an LA school, or if they don't want two Big ten schools hosting, probably Minnesoata gets shafted again, or they make it up to them and exclude Penn State.

Could be Wisconsin. Have they had a regional? I know Green Bay did, but that's not the same thing.
Purdue might be interested?

I know the Purdue people have considered it, but don't know if they have submitted, though.
They would have to play in Mackey, but it is a good place.
UNI could be submitting now, too. The new MacLeod Center is a spectacular volleyball venue.

UNI would be a nice site.

Yes it would. Excellent volleyball support in the area, centrally located.
As much as I would like it, I don't see UNI getting back to a regional soon (although I have to say, kudos to Bobbi for bringing a team that is all hers and not leftover from Iradge)

The biggest loser is the integrity of InterCollegiate Volleyball. The way the tourney is set up is an absolute farce.
The NCAA Champion can easily be crowned without the joke of a tourney that is currently being used.

BiK, I agree. The Regionalization is very bad for volleyball. The limited seedings is a farce.

BiK, I agree. The Regionalization is very bad for volleyball. The limited seedings is a farce. i think more than seeding all the teams, the committee should also seed each region bracket separately (take a page out of basketball in the NCAAs). that would prevent matchups like LSU-Cal in the first round ... the way it is now, the committee doesn't have to justify such a matchup. but no way this matchup passes muster, if each team in each region has a little number in front of the team name...
