Mark Peckham, a 6-5 senior setter for 14th-ranked The Ohio State University (18-8, 11-3 MIVA), has been chosen the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II Men's National Player of the Week. Peckham led the Buckeyes to upsets of 11th-ranked Lewis and 13th-ranked IPFW to move Ohio State into a tie with Ball State atop the MIVA conference standings. He recorded 47 assists (15.7 apg) in the sweep of the Flyers, while directing OSU to a .402 hitting percentage. He also added three digs, one block and a kill. Peckham distributed 54 assists and tallied 11 digs, four blocks and four kills in five attempts (.800) in OSU's five-game defeat of IPFW. He averaged 12.62 assists, 1.75 digs, 0.62 blocks and guided the Buckeye offense to hit .316 in the two matches. The Ohio State University head coach is Pete Hanson.
It sounds like he deserved the honor. Congrats.

They never pick top players for this award, it baffles me. Anyone know why they don't?

So, who's your pick? And why do you think he is more deserving than Peckham? I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, just wondering what you're thinking!

if a coach/institution doesn't turn in stats on a player then he doesn't receive consideration for POW or All-American for that matter.

I have not seen Ohio State play this year or many of the east of the rockies teams either. Why not congratulate the guy anyway? It sounds like he had a couple of good matches and was distributing the ball well. I am sure there are others that are deserving of the honor as well, but I will congratulate the one that got the award and so far I am the only one that has included a congratulations in a post.

Ok, Congratulations! if a coach/institution doesn't turn in stats on a player then he doesn't receive consideration for POW or All-American for that matter. Why wouldn't a coach submit the stats?

Thanks for congratulating him. I am glad someone took me up on the offer.
In answer to your question, who knows. Sometimes the school is on break and the statistician is not in to do their job. Sometimes it is not submitted by the deadline. Take a look at the complete stats. There are guys that one week they are there the next week they aren't then they are back again. It all has to do with submittal of the stats.

"Why wouldn't a coach submit stats?" ===========================
Good question. Some probably just forget. It probably is as much a factor of having a sports information guy that is a volleyball fan and proactive for your team.
I think about 8 or 9 years ago a very good player got left out of the all american consideration for this very reason.

I understand that, it just seems too bad. Volleyball programs just don'tt have the staff that they need!!!!
