This has been probably been discussed before, but why isn't she a head coach somewhere? Is she alot like the assistant coaches under Tom Osborne, where she just feels the assistant job is better than being the top dog at other places? Thanks in advance Cardinal fans.

DC is a great assistant coach but I don't think she was that successful as a head coach. Remember the year she was the interim head coach, it was a diastrous.

Of course, Shaw was so kind as to dump the Logan-less team on Denise.

Denise, one of the all time great people, and an absolutely phenomenal athlete.

Though I'm not exactly a Don Shaw fan, he was going through hell in his personal life during his leave of absence... he was there for his family and didn't take it out on his team, as it would have been so easy to do under such trying circumstances. From what other boosters have told me, he was planning to come back... he told one of them how much he was looking forward to coaching Ogonna Nnamani... but when the men's job came open, he looked at what he loved... teaching... what he hated... external pressure, especially that associated with boosters... and where his roots were (playing and then assisting and coaching men's VB), I think that made his decision explicable.
Stanford was not Logan-free in 2000... she came back late but was able to enroll because Stanford's Fall Quarter starts in late September. If this year's team had leadership issues and on-court performance issues... which, to some degree, it probably did... they were nothing compared to the problems the 2000 team had.

I wouldn't profess to know why she isn't a head coach somewhere but I'd guess that it's not because she isn't capable. Maybe she just decided that life's good as the number 1 assistant on a perennial top 5 team at a great academic, well-financed institution in a great area of Northern California.

As a sidenote, I've always wondered why Shaw never had any success with the men's team. Yes, he was a great coach for the women, but will his legacy be tarnished somewhat for basically running the men's team into the ground. They haven't been good ever since Ruben Nieves left.

The talent wasn't good enough to win the big matches. With a topnotch OH and libero (both courtesy of the Hawaiian Islands) coming in 2007, they should be competitive again.

I don't think she wants to be a head coach versus being an assistant at Stanford.

From what she has told me, she enjoys being an assistant at Stanford and she loves the area and the institution. She has admitted that she has the personality more suited towards being an assistant coach rather than a head coach and is fine with that. If she were to leave Stanford, the LA area would be the only place she would consider, as she is from there and her family is there. Other than that, don't expect coach Corlett to leave anytime soon.
