I want to say Congrats on what everybody called an over rated Big XII conference. 6 out of 6 teams made it into the second round. 3 made it into the sweet 16. The national runner up almost lost in their way to the final to a Big XII school. And even though every single one of you will say that the Pac 10 had 3 teams into the final four. There´s only one National Champion Big XII´s own NU. To me this only means that Big XII this year was a stronger conference than everybody thought. What do you all think?

Nebraska was good this year, but how many Big 12 schools lost to a Pac-10 team? Either way, I like a lot of teams from both conferences. They should have a Big XII vs. Pac-10 tournament/series or something.

I like that idea and have been advocating (not sure that´s a word) for it for years now. A Big XII - Pac 10 Challenge. 1st Tournament of the year.

What it showed is that the Big 12 teams that made it to the tournament deserved to be there. It said nothing about the conference as a whole. I have no problem believing that Nebraska is the best team in the country and the Big 12 perhaps one of the top 3 conferences in the country. However - one exceptional team in a group of above average teams doesn't really say much. I'm not going to mistake the 2006 Big 12 as a conference of several exceptional teams.

... The national runner up almost lost in their way to the final to a Big XII school... No, Nebraska is the Champion, not the runner-up; and Minnesota is from the Big 10, not the Big 12. And if that had happened, as you say, then there would've been zero teams from the Big 12 at the Final Four in Nebraska.

Or Stanford's win over TEXAS in 4 on the road. Both Big12 teams had the Cardinal on the ropes.

Duh?? Didn't you see the smiley? I was merely pointing out that he chose to ignore other facts less flattering to the Big 12.

Really though - I took a look at the Big 12-Pac 10 matchups (I only counted 9), and it's too small a sample size to make any meaningful conclusions. Personally I don't care for the title. Nebraska was clutch. That's doesn't necessarily rub off on the rest of the Big 12.

Big 12 did very well in the tournament and produced the champ, but the Pac 10 is the best conference in volleyball, by a fairly healthy margin. (Notice that this post proves you can have favorite teams or conferences, but still be based in reality and see the nose on the end of your face.)

Do people have to live in YOUR reality for their opinion to make sense? Some people don't like the nose on the end of their face and prefer to see the world from a different angle. Doesn't make them wrong, they just live in a different reality.

Personally I don't care for the title. Nebraska was clutch. That's doesn't necessarily rub off on the rest of the Big 12. So what are you saying? In the previous 5 years that a Pac-10 team won the title, that doesn't necessarily rub off on the rest of the Pac-10?

This who thread seems like some sort of exercise in transitive logic. Nebraska won the championship, which then makes them the best team in NCAA D-I, which makes the Big 12 the best conference, which makes (here's the elephant in the room that nobody has pointed out yet) Baylor a better team. I can think of a better question to ask about conference strength. How many Big 12 teams had a realistic shot of winning the national championship?

I am not sure what was expected of the Big 12 or what you mean by overrated, but I think it certainly was one of the top three, probably top two, conferences this past season. Pablo rated it third in its last ratings (after the NCAA second round) just behind the Big 10, but who am I to question Pablo? Following are the win-loss record of each conference's teams in the NCAA matches leading to the Final Four, round by round: Big 12: 6-0, 3-3, 2-1, 1-1 = 12-5 Pac 10: 6-1, 5-1, 3-2, 3-0 = 17-4 (including 1 intra-conference 3d round match, counting as 1 win and 1 loss) Big 10: 5-2, 5-0, 2-3, 0-2 = 12-7 (including 1 intra-conference 3d round match, counting as 1 win and 1 loss) Comparing each conference in head-to-head matches through the Championship, the records in the NCAA's are: Big 12 against Pac 10: 2-4 (but what big ones they were!) Big 12 against Big 10: 2-1 Pac 10 against Big 10: 2-0 Sample sizes might be small, but you can still draw your own conclusions.
