Why would you ask a guy if he is happy and willing to stay at a place where he just won the national chapionship just 4 days ago? Of course he would be happy! I would.
But ask again in 2-3 months.

Just a side note on Cal Recruiting - Someone in an earlier post hinted the Lee was responsible for Cals succesful recruiting. Chris Bigelow is the recruiting coordinator there and is one of the best in the country. Just like every other assistant around the country, Lee may have helped, but Chris is the main recruiter. No - I was just saying that he was involved in recruiting, and knows the way the recruiting business works. In his first year when he was thrust from #2 assistant to interim head coach, he recruited Caity Noonan, Leah Young, and Courtney Guerra. He's the guy who found Mia Jerkov. I know Chris Bigelow is Cal's primary recruiting coordinator. I don't know if there's a better recruiter in the country.

After bonuses, Lee made near $100,000 this year. Where is he gonna go to do better than that?

I wasn't going to bring up salary since I didn't know, although I did hear that Nebraska is compensating him very well for an assistant volleyball coach. However - I get the feeling that one's pay goes a long way in Lincoln, where you could probably buy a large house for the down payment on a modest home in the Bay Area.

100 k is serious money in Lincoln. Probably $225 in Bezerkely.

I threw out Lee's salary range, to make sure his friends make him buy!

Don't forget that all of the coaches at Nebraska make a post-season bonus for making the final four. There are lots of "in$entives" for the coaches to produce winning teams. He is not known for his cooking- I am sure he could hire a chef now! Or just stay at the training table. Will Nebraska be just as good or better for Lee to stay? We will know by this time next year.

they have a nice bonus structure for making the tournament, winning regional and winning championship. JC gets $50K for winning national championship and I believe the AD gets a very nice bonus as well. As for Lee being a head coach he has all the qualifications and has contributed to the husker program in a big way. But, there have been many a coach in every sport who were great assistants and couldn't get it done as a head coach. You never know until thrown into the arena.

Well - he does have a 4-13 career record as a D-I head coach.

Lee is a great guy and a very good coach. He's pretty new to Nebraska, so give him some time to work on the blocking. He definitely has tough shoes to fill following in Skinner's footsteps, but I think the results should prove themselves. NU 2006 National Champions.

I spoke with Lee a couple of times while in Omaha (both prior to and after the final) and he is very happy in Lincoln (well, as happy as a transplanted Cali guy can be ). Has he had opportunities? Yes. Will he have more opportunities after winning a National Championship? Yes. Would/will he make a great head coach? Yes. However, he isn't looking to leave Lincoln any time in the near future, so everyone can put those rumors to rest. Do you really think Maes would tell you if he was entertaining leaving?

Why does everyone assume that every assistant coach has head coach aspirations or has what it takes to be a head coach?? The assistant Denise C at Stanford is a great example. Maybe Lee does, maybe he doesn't, I'm sure only he and his family really know the answer to that.

Do you really think Maes would tell you if he was entertaining leaving? I don't know if he would put it in quite those terms. Here's a theoretical conversation that I may or may not have had with Lee at one time: Moi: So Lee, are you going to be here next year? Lee: Man - you're the third person to ask me that question today.Third person: Hey Lee, you're in high demand right now.Moi: Well, your name seems to have come up with some of the job openings. So you haven't been contacted or been interviewed? Lee: Well - I wouldn't say that.
