Huskers land star blocker By the Lincoln Journal Star Saturday, Dec 30, 2006 - 12:34:41 am CST
Allison McNeal called to wish Nebraska volleyball coach John Cook a Merry Christmas on Monday and to say she planned to be a Husker.
“I think he was pretty excited,” McNeal said.
The 6-foot-3 middle blocker from Schulenburg, Texas, became the third high school star to say she would be a member of the Huskers’ 2008 recruiting class. McNeal chose reigning national champion Nebraska over top-10 programs Texas and Florida.
She visited Lincoln the weekend of the Huskers’ second-round NCAA Tournament win against Northern Iowa earlier this month.
“I thought it was a very nice town, a good fit for me,” said McNeal, who hails from a community of 3,000 located halfway between San Antonio and Houston. “The team was great and watching them win the championship on TV was pretty exciting.”
McNeal is both a volleyball star and a state high jump champion for the Lady Horns. Her club volleyball experience is minimal on a national scale, but she did make the training roster for the U.S. Youth National Team last summer.
McNeal joins outside hitters Kaitlynn James of Louisville, Ky., and Jordan Haverly of Cherry Valley, Ill., as 2008 recruits. All will sign national letters-of-intent in November.

I didn't see any weakness from Nebraska in the Final Four. They were fantastic!

That is a great pick-up for the Huskers. They will need some help in two years.
