Like mother, like daughter. I am pretty sure you being a husker fan know which one was Sarah's dad but the announcers and TV crew kept referring to and zooming in on the guy to her moms right(with the white sleeves). Which was not her father. It was cracking me up! That guy was going off after just about every play! I do remember what you are referring to though SaltNpepper.

"Pavan is joined by three other college volleyball All-Americans in Stanford’s Foluke Akinradewo, UCLA’s Nana Meriwether and Washington’s Courtney Thompson, who won the Honda Award in 2005. Pavan will look to become the fourth Husker to earn the volleyball honor, joining Karen Dahlgren (1986), Allison Weston (1995) and Greichaly Cepero (2000)."That was taken from the article on huskers.com So if Sarah shouldn't get it then who should? Thompson was a Junior last year when she got it so given the year that Sarah has had why shouldn't she get it? Just curious!

Sarah Pavan is a great player and deserves many awards but her lack of personality and also some of the comments that she has made might keep her from getting an award like this. You're probably right. Poor Sarah, I am sure the people that hand out these things are trolling the internet as we speak looking for negative soundbites. VCRs are probably almost worn out as they go back and forth on each shot of her and judge her facial expressions. I can see the score sheet already: Deduct 10 pts for frowning Deduct 25 pts for not over celebrating after monster kill Deduct 15 pts for downcast eyes when she misses serve Add 20 pts for smiling Add 15 pts for touching a teammate (as long as it isn't a punch) Poor Pavan it's just not fair. Doesn't have a chance in hell in getting the Honda. I guess I didn't relay what I meant very well. Sarah likes to talk about why she is at Nebraska, why she should have asked for the ball more. Why she won't let them lose ...a lot of me, me, me. To her defense her play definitely backed her talk this year. Her interview and quotes aren't going to win her any awards though...in other words, she could use some PR help. My point is that I'm not sure she'll be able to capture the affection from everyone due to her nature, unlike the smiles and warmth of other great players we have seen and embraced in the volleyball world. This diminishes in no way her accomplishments.....

But when she does talk about these things, and you read the press, it's because she was asked about these things. She's not just randomly spouting off this stuff at any reporter that walks by. She's asked the questions, she answers them, and then selected quotes get into the media.

She's asked the questions, she answers them, and then selected quotes get into the media. In addition, it's interesting that you keep referring to only these stories. The Omaha World Herald ran a very good article, just in time for the Final Four this year, that pretty much sums up everything. Some points: Pavan freely admits that she was very nervous and scared her freshman year. She also has a self-depracating humor. Her serve before the Final Four was generally inconsistent and she made some sort of joke about it. In other words she knows her weaknesses. What's wrong with demanding the ball more. She hit over .400 that match while Larson had what one kill. But instead her nervousness and shyness prevented her from speaking out. Does it mean we win the match, probably not. If you've ever seen her off-camera, shots of her between plays, or any other number of places AWAY from the volleyball court and news media, she is one of the most gentle, shy people you will ever meet. She is incredibly focused on the task at hand. The other major point as Cinnamopous pointed, its not like she's standing on top of the Coliseum roof shouting: "Hey everyone get over here, I've got something to say!" She is asked questions, she gives very direct answers. Pavan is Pavan, not a politician.

Her interview and quotes aren't going to win her any awards though...
Last time I checked she didn't enter the Ms. Universe Pageant. So if those are the types of awards you are referring to...then you have a point.
However, she did participate in collegiate volleyball. Some of the awards given out in that arena would include National POY, Conference POY, COSIDA (or whatever its called, the highes award given for academics AND atheletics), NCAA Tourney MVP, Player of the Week awards, AA certificates. I guess she might have a chance at these.

Thankfully you aren't on the selection committee.
