I doubt you'll see it on the PSU website. Holloway was a non factor on the PSU team hopefully she will fit better at UCLA. The only time I remember her playing was when Harmotto got hurt and they moved Sayler to the Middle and she played RS. She is a great athlete I hope it will be a good move for her next 2 years.

Holloway is a good player that most likely will start on any other Big 10 program. She is not a great defender but handles the ball well and has a quick/explosive jump. What I can remember of her was that she had all the tools but was sometimes erractic. Something that the PSU hitters in fron of her are not. She will do well at UCLA, but will she leave if she sees that playing time is diminshed. It is a shame that you go to a school because you want to play ball and not because of the academics it provides. ESTRELLA

Academics are overrated. Well, not really, but unless you are at a premier college for your program, I generally think that the majority of programs that fall into the middle of the bell curve are pretty close in quality, and that if you put a lot into your education, you will get a lot out. For a lot of these girls, they have their once in a lifetime shot to play collegiate volleyball and may not be content with riding the bench. I can't say I blame them for wanting to transfer based on playing time. If you are putting in 30 hours a week playing volleyball, that is going to be a big passion of yours, and you will do what it takes to compete. Does anyone here KNOW why Holloway is transferring? That she IS transferring? That she is transferring to UCLA?
I doubt it. Worse yet, why are we offering our own reasons for her hypothetical transfer?
Maybe she wants to be warm? Maybe she wants to join the Crips? Maybe she wants to be in the next Rob Schneider movie?

She wants to play, and doesn't see that happening behind Fawcett, Hodge, and Blair Brown and she is right. Good kid, good program, it happens. Hodge adn Brown were not there when she committed, those are two athletes that are frankly better.

I understand that. But why UCLA, if it is UCLA?
All I'm saying is that reasons for transferring can be complex. Obviously, if it was _just_ a matter of wanting to play, she would have transferred for 2006. If it was _just_ a matter of wanting to play, UCLA would not be the best choice (if it is the choice).

Who's Holloway? And how do you decipher "Is Holloway, (Penn State)..." I don't understand the comma before the parenthetical.

Ruffda, that is the million dollar question. I don't think the transfer solves her problem, but who cares what we think. Also, if your UCLA you have to ask, if she isn't good enough to play there.....? know she was well liked, and liked PSU.

Don't think that's a bad thing.

I could see her leaving PSU if she were looking for a better chance to start. I don't think she will beat out Fawcett or Hodge (or Price on the right side, probably). Still, I am not sure UCLA would be an obvious destination, with their 28,000 person roster and flexible lineup the last two years. I can see not wanting to freeze to death in winter, though, especially now. I hope that it works out for her whatever she does. It is/was just a tough situation for her, as sometimes good players don't find playing time in top programs.

If you are putting in 30 hours a week playing volleyball, that is going to be a big passion of yours, and you will do what it takes to compete. I couldn't agree more. I am in a somewhat unusual program that Tennessee is the best in the nation at, so if i were an athlete i would be hesitant to transfer, and my list of destinations would be limited. But what about a marketing major, or a communications major? Or just a "business major?" A lot of common majors are offered almost everywhere, and the schools are very compareable. Like Yap said, a lot of these schools are in the middle of the bell curve, and you will get out what you put in. Besides, it's very common advice to ALL students to take more than academics into account. Students deciding on a college are frequently advised to take other things into account, and find a college where they can be both academically succesful and very happy. If you play intercollegiate volleyball, then volleyball is going to play a big role in your happiness.
