The 2006 Texas Tornados Spring Tournament was a huge success! With over 800 fans in attendance to watch the feature match and tournament both Friday and Saturday. We had 11 teams participate in our first year and we hope to expand the tournament to include 24 teams playing on 8 courts at our facility. The format will be pools of 3 in the morning that feed into 3 brackets of 8 starting in the afternoon. We have scheduled the College Spring Tournament date for Saturday, April 14, 2007. For more information, please email Kara at kwaddell@texastornados.org Confirmed Teams for 2007:
(looking for 4 more teams to round out the field at 24)
USC Texas A&M LSU Oklahoma Rice Alabama Baylor New Mexico State Louisiana Tech Texas Tech SFA SMU University of New Mexico UH Wichita State TCU Lamar UTEP Tulane UNLV

Yes, UH in Houston...I wish that we could get Hawaii...we talked about it when Charlie was there, just doesn't seem like it would happen...heck, I would not want to leave one of the most beautiful places either...its just so expensive to get to there or from there!

Oh - and USC is "Southern California"?
And may I be the first to welcome TP on the occasion of her first post to VolleyTalk.

Do you think this tournament will get big enough that the TX Tornadoes can put it on without charging an entry fee to the participating teams?

That's what we hope for in the next couple of years. I think its great for colleges to come to Tornados or SPRI to showcase their programs to the club side of volleyball. We had a great turn out last year and are looking at a larger turn out this year. We are going to hopefully work with SPRI to where we can both host this event on different weekends next year since we both have great facilities to host a great event like this. Everytime I speak with college coaches about the spring.. they say that's its got to become more competitive and that's what we both offer. And, yes...USC as in Southern California is planning on attending this year! Hope this helps!

With the full slate of matches, I guess we won't be seeing TP out there with the Tornadoes coaches team showing these college girls how its done.

How good is Oklahoma going to be after last year's Sweet 16 season?
How is Baylor looking? I know they lost LeBlanc and Guillard-Young?
Just looking to see if anyone has any updates.

Baylor is a really young team right now. Next year 90% of the starters will be either freshmen or sophomores. However, they will showcase one of the best setters in the state of Texas, and a Tornados Alumnus will have the oportunity to go back home and show her improvement. As for OU, they lost almost all of their staters due to graduation. So i don't believe they'll be very impressive in the spring. It'll be interesting to see both teams in the fall though there's a lot of talent coming to both squads and the level of Big XII volleyball should stay as high as it was last season.
