I am a little impatient in waiting for the volleyball Gods to unveil their 2007 recruiting class rankings. From utilizing the various player ratings (there are not many ratings to choose from) I have determined the top 10-12 to look like this:
1. Stanford 2. USC 3. Nebraska 4. Minnesota 5. Texas 6. UCLA 7. Purdue 8. Ohio State 9. Illinois 10. Penn State 11. Florida 12. Kentucky
It looks like the rich get richer in 2007.

Notice that Hawaii rarely seems to make the top ten recruiting lists, but always seems to finish there?
That's just good coaching.

Or bad ranking. Both recruiting and AVCA.
It also helps that Hawaii gets more good transfers than any other DI program.

It seems like Hawaii has benefitted from a few transfers as well. I also doubt that many of the media-types who select these teams get a chance to travel to Hawaii to watch the high school and club action there. It has been a while since I have seen Hawaii - even on TV. Hawaii's classes in the past four years have been ranked 19, 16, 8, and 7. The past two years, Hawaii's RPI finished at 11 and 14. I don't see anything too alarming in those numbers expecially when you consider the transfer factor.

So which is it, IB? The players are overrated (see AA lists) or Dave's a genius? Wait! I know. The players are great _and_ Dave's a genius.

There have also been teams with top 10 recruting classes that don't finish anywhere near the top 10 in the polls, like Arizona and Notre Dame last year. Recruiting is subjective anyway, who knows how accurate these rankings really are?

We all know Stanford has a great class coming in ....but USC? Wow! Yeah, SC is way too high. Garrett's good, Roleder's a viable commodity, Urango is not a front row player in the Pac 10, and Williams still has a way to go before she's ready to mix it up with the big boys.

Isn't Texas too low? Doris and Faucette were both top 5 recruits, right?

Hawaii also plays in the WAC. You get easy 18+ wins right there. Plus the All-WAC honors are guaranteed.
