Looks like Santiago hired (http://dotyoureye.blogspot.com/)
Anyone really know what happened to the other assistants?

Here's my thought from the one match I saw them play in Hawaii.
Restrepo had to hire some assistants with more volleyball skills background. These girls were well motivated and had athletisism. Oklahoma, was way motivated, but didn't have the skills to compete with the higher level teams when the situation called for more than emotion.
But, I've been wrong before. Once.

I think that Steve, who is known as a great teacher, let alone an All-American setter at USC (trained by Jim McLaughlin), may qualify him as someone that knows what he's doing.
Thinking you're off base with this one.

The day that CVU.Com announced Restrepo as their National Coach of the Year, (and in his press release he says that he couldn't have done it without his great staff), he called two of his staff members into his office and said that he was going in a different direction. Restrepo and Loeswick have been friends for about ten years. Last year Loeswick would have been a great candidate for the Virginia Tech job (where his wife Jen is from and went to college and would have loved to return), but Loeswick didn't want to leave Restrepo hanging that close to preseason. This shows tremendous loyalty in my book!
So, after the best year in program history, how does the head coach reward two of his staff members.... "today is your last day". Oh yeah, the two coaches are married. So, both of their incomes are over effective immediately. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that Jen is 7 months pregnant. No family income? No insurance? Best season ever? Guess what.... I'm not going to give you an explanation on why "I am going in a different direction". Thanks for your help, now here is my foot in your arse.
Anyone who has seen this guy coach on the sidelines cringes. Now we are seeing another layer to his character. Nice! Very Nice!

erniepantusso I think you're getting all of this wrong. I agree that Steve is a well capacitated coach and he'll do just fine as a head coach. However, by reading at the press release I could see why Santiago decided to go on a different direction. He's a sucker for international talent I am not very sure Steve could bring that to the OU program. As for his character, how can you judge a coach that takes the worst team in one of the best volley conferences in the nation and turns it around so quickly. To me that speaks something about his character.

That speaks zero of his character...perhaps volumes about his coaching (and I might add his assistants), but absolutely nothing about character.

Hard work isn't part of a person's character??? You can also tell someone's character by the way they treat others...

i think what happened at oklahoma is more than likely a personal matter between santiago and his assistants. we can sit here and conjecture all we want about why they were let go but at the end of the day none of us knows what happens behind closed doors. that being said, ask any head coach and they will tell you they absolutely could not do what needs to be done without their assistants. it's just not possilbe. so i understand santiago's quotes and will give him the benefit of the doubt about what was done. for all we know, this could have been something that was established between the two parties in September and wasn't going to be executed until after the holidays. all of this, of course, IMHO

It has been my experience with message boards (and owning and operating quite a number of them myself) that among the plethora of posts on some issue, some (or one) of the posts come straight from the horse's mouth, though we won't know which one. In other words, there's truth in one of the posts. The key is to figure out which one.
For example, let's say there's a message board about EA's March Madness playstation/xbox game. Usually, there's a poster named buffan24 who is none other than EA Sports's chief designer of the March Madness game. He will point out and defend key features, without letting on that he's the chief engineer, of course. He just pretends to be a fan (Univ. of Colorado Buffaloes) of the game. Just a hypothetical example.

according to the assistants, no warning and no reason other than "another direction"
