Some questions about Haneef. Not that she plays outside hitter, does she stay in the passing rotations? Can see pass and even dig balls?
How did she do in NCAA? Did she pass? I believe she was only an ALl American once, correct? What happened the other years?

Yes, Haneef does pass for the national team. I don't believe she was a primary passer while at Long Beach. In terms of her ability at passing, she does better than I would have expected.... franckly about as well as all the other outside hitters playing for the national team right now.... but that isn't saying much.
For someone that is 2 meters tall, she plays decent defense.

Haneef's good enough to pass in comparison to the other players on her team. And she's not a liability on defense. SOmetimes, she is subbed out by Lang Ping for Drury or some other DS during crucial situations.

In college, she could handle serve receive decently. At the international level, it'll be like one good pass, three off passes, one shank. But apparently, she's still a better passer than Metcalf and perhaps Wilkins.

I'm really starting to get nervous. Our national team isn't going to even come close to the 04 team with the outside hitters that are in place now. Logan, if your listening, PLEASE come back. Anyone think that Larson or Barboza are ready for the team? What about the setting position? Are will still going with Aw Mow or Courtney? I would like to see Mcginnis get involved quickly. What about Ogonna? Can she help the team at OH? She can't pass. So who would you rather have that can't pass, Haneef or Ogonna? Is Ogonna more consistent hitting? Thats a lot of questions... enjoy...

Well, I'm hoping for the best still. Maybe there will be a late shuffle like in 2000 w/ the inclusion of Walsh and Tom and Bown. Perhaps Tom and Sykora will return. That would be a big help. I would think that Larson, Barboza, and Houghtelling could be candidates for OH. Both Larson and Barboza will need to make big strides in their hitting to be effective internationally. Same for Houghtelling and we'll have to see if her passing has improved. What the heck is up w/ Ogonna? When is she going to rejoin the National Team or compete in the Pro Leagues? As for setters, I don't know if McGinnis will have enough time to break the starting line up. Kanoe and Thompson should be possibilities, but they need to win out the setting position soon. Setter is the last position they would want to gamble w/ at the last minute.

Latest on Ogonna... don't know if she is getting any playing time.

S. Livingston joined Kim W.'s team in Italy at the first of the year.... looking at the stats, I don't think she has seen the floor yet.

Last I saw Houghtelling on the national team, she was so-so. Barboza is a possibility, but I just wish Ogonna could pass.

Don't be surprised to see Larson training with the national team this summer and again immediately after the 07 season to get ready for China. Already ball handles at the International level and I'm guessing USA staff feels the best way to get her ready to hit at the International level is to have her in Colorado Springs. One thing she will have to do is hit the weights hard. Of course this could mean she sits out 08 NCAA season for Nebraska. Not sure how that would go over with coach Cook since Omaha host in 08.

I don't think Barboza and Larson are ready for the national team at this point. They have so much potential and could be major contributors for the national team down the line. Ah Mow stays at the setter position, because she's a complete player.....defensively she's amazing. But then anything can happen. I would pick Haneef over Ogonna...anytime. Haneef has been working on her passing lately with the team, I wouldn't rely on her defensive skills a lot, but it's something.

Why would Larson have to sit out the 08 season? The Olympics are in July. She could compete in the Olympics, and be back in Lincoln before Nebraska even opens up training camp.

I thought the same thing. Surely a coach would make an exception for his/her Olympic caliber players even if they did miss some of the practice period (it's not like they'd be out of shape).

Surely. Otherwise, it would leave a rather unpleasant taste in the fan's mouth, given that said coach made comments this year about how another coach in his conference wasn't going to take the risks necessary to develop a certain superstar freshman to her potential.

As much as I don't really care for Cook, I think he puts a strong emphasis on developing his starting players. He supports a player's desire to compete in the Olympics and on the National Team and beyond. I think Meedering/Metcalf redshirted in 2000 to give the Olympics a shot even tho she didn't make it. Nebraska won a title that year too. So I'd like to see Larson really push to start on the National Team. I think her passing could hold up. She really needs to work on the hitting however.
