Destinee Hooker (Texas) earned an automatic qualifying jump with her 1.86 meter leap in the high jump.
1.86m... not bad at all. That's 73.23 inches, or 6'3 1/4"

Check out the picture. (Second link at top of page.) That is perfect high jump form. Good for her. It says that she jumped 6'5" earlier in the month. Holy cow! She is on her way to WINNING the high jump at the next Olympics! She is one heck of an athlete.

I think she should just concentrate on high jumping and forget that other sport she dabbles in ;D

Not to take anything away from her accomplishments but, actually I wouldn't be surprised if this picture was a missed attempt! She is slightly off of flat on top of the bar and the bar is already about at her knees and her heels are still wrapped under the bar- which means she has a lot of quick work to do in the close portion of the jump. Never the less - great jumping Destinee - You go girl!!!! Hope to see you on one of these teams in the near future.

If there is one thing about the high jump, even more than volleyball, a picture more often than not does not tell the whole story. However, if the bar height is anywhere near 6-feet or over, my guess is with you, that she missed it. You might be onto something that may (or may not) be limiting her high jump potential, as a jumper has a lot more opportunities to hit the bar off when they overarch and start wrapping under the bar. It appears that she either has a tendency to do so, or the photographer has a tendency to capture early jump-entry shots: Here's a case-in-point. An old photo of a goofy-looking, super-skinny kid in high school. He's way over the bar, right? Can you tell how high the jump is? No, and the photographers RARELY publish the actual jump over the clear height. Can you tell if he cleared it? No. Although, in this case, he did. Oh yeah, the bar was at 5-10.I love the high jump and track & field in general... good memories.

This girl is amazing. I watched her play at Nebraka's revenge match. They lost but boy can that girl put it down. Imagine her and jamie houston on the same team. Also, who would want to name their kid destinee hooker. Sorry, I had to bring that up. I ponder that from time to time. Well, her destiny is not to be a hooker...at all!

Detinee Hooker is a phenomenal athlete. Very talented and beautiful girl. Yes, I can picture Hooker and Houston on the same team, they can do some damage!

Coach asks me to jump, I respond with "How high are you?"
What am I? A friggin' kangaroo?
