Wow, she'll probably redshirt this year with Hittle, Houston, Keefe at OH and Kaufman a candidate at OPP. Look's like Hawaii's future OH's hitters are Ferell and Herring.

Yay. So she'll be joining the Wahine this season???
Wait though ... doesn't this mean the Wahine will have like ... 20 players next season, not including players who want to walk on? I duno, but I think the Wahine roster is in need of some cleaning.

I duno, but I think the Wahine roster is in need of some cleaning. The Wahine will have a lot of players on their roster, however something very odd is happening with the scholarship count. If I am counting correctly, we are at 13, so this could mean a possible transfer or someone's scholarship was taken away (either by Shoji or freely relinquished by getting a scholarship elsewhere). Keep in mind that in terms of hitters and setters, Hawaii has around 14 players. But with the liberos, Hawaii has a lot more player. However, I don't think Shoji will be taking any other walk on players this year.

I'm excited, because the Wahine have a TON of players who have untapped potential ... and with the recruits coming in, we could be looking at one of THE most raw and athletics group of players. However, I really want to know what the roster will look like next season. There are a bunch of players who are just "bodies" on the team. Is it really neccessary to have 20 plus members? I don't think so... I really think Shoji needs to trim the team down ... unless a couple players are planning on redshirting. Kaufman, Mafua, Lee, Herring, Simmons, Brandt, Ferrell ... thats a real athletic and raw group of underclassmen.

Wow, how did it take this long just for Ferrel to commit. She sounds like a top recruit. Anyway, she sounds like a similar player to Arizona's Dosty- athletic, raw, loads of potential. It just seems like yesterday Herring commited to Hawaii.... and now Dosty? Whoa this is great news. Not sure if she'll play as much though due to already having Hittle, Kaufman, Houston, Arnott( ?)... This looks to be an interesting upcoming 2007 season. ...and on the whole official commitment thing, I think there's some kind of special period that only happens twice a year for LOI signing. I think the last one was sometime last early fall; and the next one looks to be some time in May. Hence, why she hasn't "commited" yet. With this new addition.... what looks to be the prognostication of the Wahine's 2007 season?- Any different than earlier imagined??

I'm very curious to see how all of this plays out for Hawaii's scholarship situation, and how it affects Otineru and which (if any) players are giving up their scholarship or transferring.
Maybe we'll have a better idea by next week's exhibition game?

Kaufman, Mafua, Lee, Herring, Simmons, Brandt, Ferrell ... thats a real athletic and raw group of underclassmen. What is meant by 'athletic' when referring to volleyball players, considering they're all athletes? Also, I noticed, by reading through several threads that the phrase, 'her game is better for the beach than indoors' is often used? How can you tell? Please help.

Athletic simply refers to their level of overall physical abilities. You can have a player who may not have the refined skills for volleyball, but has natural gifts such as a great vertical or speed. So, you consider them to be "athletic". Other players may not have these physical gifts but worked hard at their game so they they are fundamentally strong players. While they may be great players, they may not be as "athletic" as others on the team. In terms of a beach v. indoor game, it's kind of hard to describe. If you watch beach volleyball and then watch indoor volleyball, you can see very small differences in a player's skill. Then you can see how they translate.
