Wow, that's not a very tough schedule. Johnson and Sorenson are big loses, but they return their big guns in Sipher and Ericson. Hawaii may end up being the only ranked team on the schedule. Pepperdine should be ranked but Arizona is a real toss up.

I hope the WAC keeps up the momentum building throughout the last couple years. But you know, Hawaii is still a good team even if we're in a mediocre conference. But you know what? I think by us setting the bar that is what will make the conference better. And evidently it has shown in the Wolf Pack and NMSU in the last couple years. I hope something happens this year with the WAC. Something drastic.

I love it when teams with NO chance of making the Final Four put it on their schedules as if there were a chance...

I dunno, roy, it's not a horrible schedule for Nevada. It is a little interesting that there are only 23-scheduled matches. In fact, it has some potential for a solid RPI. If we look at non-conference, there are:
Pepperdine, Arizona, Lipscomb Washington State, UNLV, Hofstra Sacramento State
Eh, ok... not so great. I do expect Washington State to be much improved next season. UNLV always seems to be a thorn , Hofstra and Lipscomb have potential to be good RPI wins. Sac State? Eh... Big Sky champs usually are really tough... this could be a bubble-candidacy match.
I haven't done a detailed analysis of the WAC yet for '07, but I do expect more from Nevada and Fresno State. I think that Idaho will be pretty tough next season. New Mexico State really is loading up on some very solid talent, as well.
On another note, it looks like they bumped up the WAC season a week.... this means that the WAC Tournament isn't on Thanksgiving weekend again! This is GREAT NEWS! Not only do the girls have the potential to not play on Turkey day, some teams, like Hawaii, will have the potential to play in one of those typically strong Turkey-Day weekend NCAA-warm-ups... I wonder if Hawaii will try to host one!

Any insights on new Asst for Nevada? Did Ray go with Oscar to SJSU? If so, that is a lot of technical/training change--

Look for the new assistant to come from the east. I would put about a 75% likelihood on it.
Also, I think it is awesome when teams put the final four on their schedules. One it lets their team know when it is and two it is ever teams goal to get there whether they have a chance or not.
This past year we put it on our schedule and even had the parade date chosen. We had no shot of going but it got our kids excited and they really enjoyed it.

I wonder if Hawaii will try to host one! Last year, Nevada had a relatively weak schedule, but that was expected with the departure of Salavea. But in years past, they have a fairly solid schedule with a couple of ranked teams and some solid competition. We can't expect a schedule with all ranked teams, however this schedule can be dangerous for the Wolfpack. Even a clean sweep of their preseason and a second or third place in the WAC might not be enough to get them into the NCAA tournament. Pepperdine is the only team I can safely say will be an NCAA team. Arizona was young last year, but if they continue their struggles, they may also not make the tournament again. Lipscomb and Hofstra are not NCAA tournament teams, and while Washington State may be improved, they probably won’t be an NCAA tournament team either. UNLV had a did well last year, however whether they can repeat it this year is another story. NMSU probably won’t be ranked in 2007. And Utah State looks to be the only other solid team for the WAC. Nevada can’t expect the WAC to help their schedule. This schedule is dangerous if they get a couple of loses. They won’t make the NCAA tournament.

I would think that ANY D1 college team within 3-4 hours of Sacramento would put the Final Four on their schedule....and make it next to madatory for their players to go. Good motivation technique for getting better the following years whether they have any hope of going or not to any FF. And D2, D3, NAIA, community college team should also be there to watch. Motivation for their team in their own world for the next year... And any HS team/club team....should be grabbing the chance to see....

for what it is worth, Hofstra was a top 40 team last year and made it out of the first round of the tournament.
Saying that, I do not believe they will be a tournament team this year but dont discredit them as totally terrible. They are a physical team with a setter that is a national level libero and has the potential to be on the national team as such.
They lost several key seniors but return several key players who can help them beat top 100 teams such as Nevada.

But a win is a win. While no one is saying that Hofstra will be terrible, they are going to go through their growing pains without their biggest offensive weapons in middle Rivera and outside hitter Curley, not to mention the loss of their libero Durakis. Rivera and Curley were the only ones averaging over 3 kills a game, and those 3 seniors combine for a majority of the aces for the team. Their RPI will suffer due to those loses, so a win over Hofstra is not going to be an impressive win. And a loss will be even worse for Nevada.
