The Nebraska volleyball team opened its exhibition season Friday afternoon, winning all four games from San Diego in a rematch of last season’s NCAA regional semifinal. www.journalstar.com/articles/2007/03/18/huskerextra/doc45fb5e717905d803056215.txtCook said Sarah Pavan and freshman Lindsey Licht were two of Nebraska’s leaders offensively. If Licht steps in and contributes in a manner similar to what Pavan did as a freshman, this bodes well for Nebraska. Houghtellings return will more than offset loosing Mancuso to graduation. The big question is who is going to replace all the defense from Busboom.

Doesn't load for me. Did Houghtelling play? the link works fine for me. No mention of Houghtelling. (from other comments made by coach cook---sounds like her rehab has gone just fine. now it's time to knock the rust off) If anybody else is having problems w/the link i'll copy/paste the article.

Houghtelling is doing great, probably will not play this spring. They are not going to take any risks. You need to be over cautious rehabbing that injury.

I thought I heard about a week ago that she would be fully cleared to play in about three weeks. That would leave about two weeks left. The Huskers play in North Platte, NE against Wichita State in a couple weeks but I doubt she will play there. Then I think they have another match against Colorado State in about three weeks here in Lincoln. I'm hoping she will be able to play some there. I think I also read that Stalls is playing OH for Houghtelling this spring.
Also mentioned in the article above was that they blocked a TON of balls. No mention on how the backrow defense was. I think in spite of losing Dani Busboom, they will be fine back there.

She will be able to play but won't. They are making the right decisions on this one. There is no need to play her this spring. They are being cautious and wise.

Our knees were built to take a lot of walking, running, and jumping in the jungle and out on the savannah. Our shoulders, however, are not designed to execute a volleyball attack swing hundreds of times per day. If I were her coach, I would forbid her from taking many full swings until June. She was the POY, for crying out loud, it's not like she has to learn volleyball mechanics from scratch. Give her as much time to heal and build strength as possible, and by November/December you will be thankful you did. Rush her back to training simply because you're impatient to have her power on your roster, and rue the day that nagging little soreness shows back up and then increases little by little every week. Because let's face it, without her return, Nebraska's chances of repeating in 2007 drop tremendously.

OOps, you forgot to log-in as "sexy." Above is irresponsible abuse-of-power post. You know perfectly well that I'm not "sexy." That's what happens with power, people abuse it when they have it.
