I know this has a link in the other thread, but why should we Gopher fans be miserly with our threadage?
ISU, playing seniors Laura Cady (excellent libero from Marshall, MN), Meghan Ferrie, Erin Boeve and Lauren Cummings were the better team in the AM and won 2 of 3 (25-30, 30-20 and 30-27). They served tougher and played better defense. Seemed like they won almost all the rallies as the "match" wore on. I was really impressed with Kaylee Manns, too -- ISU's setter.
The afternoon games were another story as the Gophers won all four (30-28, 30-28, 30-23 and 30-16). I thought Kyla was very good all day, and I had her with 24 kills in the afternoon. Katie V had 13 (and was skying), Kelly Schmidt 14, Rachelle Hagerty 9 and JJ 4, before giving way to Meredith Nelson in game 3.
Hagerty really came on strong in the first game, after struggling in the AM. I also thought the team was helped considerably by the four DSs -- Wilber, Chin, Roysland and Fallon. Chin, especially, served really well. Tan passed well, again, all day.
All in all, I came away from the AM session concerned about their floor defense. Do they have the tenacity to win the long rallies, as has been a strength for 5 years now? I came away from the afternoon session very impressed with everyone. Rachel was setting well and the offense was picking ISU apart.
The teams play again next week in Ames.

I also had Minnesota outblocking ISU 9-4 in the afternoon. ISU probably had the advantage in the AM -- maybe by a wide margin -- but I didn't keep track.
