It's always fun to speculate and enjoy spring VBl, but can anyone remember who was the best team in preseason in major league baseball, football, etc. Not that we Husker fans don't get excited about spring performances. Heck, I am betting the winner of our intrasquad spring football game will probably win the national championship next fall! ;D

It's always fun to speculate and enjoy spring VBl, but can anyone remember who was the best team in preseason in major league baseball, football, etc. Last year's winner at the GLC Challenge (being held this weeked) was LSU. They went on to have a very good year in the fall. Baseball spring training results are not completely useless. There is a decent (although not perfect) correlation between success in spring training and in the regular season. In fact, it's not all that much different than the correlation between any 30 game sample and the final result. However, it applies better in Florida. There aren't enough teams in Arizona for those results to be very meaningful. Spring season is a good time to get playing time for lots of players, and a good time for players to work on certain skills. However, the results are not completely meaningless. You still see a lot of the same teams that are good in the spring are good in the fall.
