Team Effort Leads To More Success www.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/stories/040707aac.htmlApril 7, 2007 WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue volleyball team went 3-0 today on their home court, their tournament overall this spring. The Boilermakers were able to beat three inter-state foes on their way to pushing their spring record to 13-1. Will Purdue be able to hang w/the big girls in the Big 10?

I am the longest hitter in the driving range, do you think I stand a chance in the PGA tour?

Do they win the spring national championship? Blasphemy!!!!!....are you not reading the Nebraska threads? Ask John Cook since the great Sarah Pavan apppears to be silenced causing much sadness in volleytalk land.

Yes.
I think Purdue is firmly in the top tier of the Big Ten, but they still have not won at College Station. Next season all depends upon if they can stay healthy. 2006 would have been so much better without some of the best players getting mono!
Stephanie Lynch is a power in the middle, and Liz Jacques will be a Senior (she has gotten better every year!), so it will be interesting if Carrie Gurnell moves to outside hitter. And incoming 6'3 recruit Kristen Aurthurs is also a MH. So I am curious to see the lineup this fall! Will we run a 6-2? Is incoming recruit Jaclyn Hart (6'1 setter) a big blocker? Will Annie Mastandrea or Kelli Miller be libero? Will Lisa Pierce and Danita Merlau be recovered from their injuries? Will Sammi Mader continue to be that constant dependable force RS and serving? August seems so so far away!

intrastate, not inter. Purdon't looked good, especially considering they didn't have Danita.

Dang, iu12345, now you've gone and done it. I have to disagree with you, just out of principle.
Personally, I wasn't all too impressed with the overall play on Saturday. The best all-around match was probably in Purdue/Valpo, but I don't think the level of play was all that high. Purdue was dominant in games 1 and 3 against IU, but I don't know how much that was Purdue playing well or IU getting fatigued. The word around Purdue is that they were much sharper the week before in Kalamazoo, and the Valpo coach said the same about her team. I do know there were stretches in there that were not pleasant to watch at all (see game 1 against Ball St and game 2 against IU)
Now it is still spring, and they are without their starting OH, so maybe I am expecting too much.
Whatever the case, it was good to see some action again.
Maybe my standards have gone up

Purdue looked good...some of the time. A great team would have taken all three games from IU...which they could not do. IU only had 7 players...so I would not be too pumped. It's just spring ball - way to early to fantasize about Big Ten glory.

So... IU only had seven players at this tournament. Could someone in the know relate who has quit the team this year?
The year that three to four student athletes do not quit the team will be a big accomplishment for Dunbar. It is, however, easy to understand that not many want to be the doormat of the B10.

These spring matches give coaches the opportunity to look at a lot of players. It doesn't matter that Purdue did not sweep IU and Ball State. These teams had different line-ups on the floor in nearly every game. Dave Boos from Ball State started a different combination in every game. BSU lost all three matches and I doubt very much Boos is concerned that his Cardinals came up short on the scoreboard.

I've seen teams take it extremely seriously when they beat or just take a game against another team that they likely wouldn't have a chance against in the regular season. Still - it's very different when a full day is planned, non-starters get extended playing time, and the goal seems to be to not get hurt. The best thing I ever heard out of a huddle in Spring VB was, "Now let's have some fun!"

Spring means different things to different teams. For a team that is returning a lot of starters and has most of it's team in place it can mean putting an emphasis on execution and winning every time out. For a team with injuries or players playing out of position, it can mean surviving or experimenting with different lineups. That being said...everybody has different goals in Spring but it is never about "just having fun"

First off...P-Dub, they looked good last week in Chicago and just average in Michigan. Think in Chicago they did not have the "Wrath of Dave" upon them and they played loose and seemed to have FUN on the court! Brother John got the most out of them that day. This past week they looked scared to make a mistake and when a player did...OUT THEY CAME! Miss a serve and...YOU DON"T SERVE NO MORE! Spring ball at Purdue doesn't look like a learning experience and definitely not "let's go out and have fun"! Enjoy the summer ladies!
