Licht is no Pavan. The only comparison you can make is that they are both 6'5" and left handed. The comparisons stop there. Athletically, Licht has a very long way to go before she can compare to Pavan and quite frankly, she just isn't the same athlete that Pavan is. Sounds like Nebraska fans are already trying to prepare for Pavan's graduation by trying to annoint this kid the heir apparent. You are only setting yourself up for dissapointment. If she was anywhere near Pavan's ability, she would already be on the national team. Heck, she's not even the best of Nebraska's 07 recruits. Wow....little bit of a know it all arent you? Again ....time will tell. In the meantime with your superior wisdom perhaps you should be a guest on "Deal or no deal!"

This is not to say that she is a bad player or anything, but it is obvious if you watch her, that she is not in the same class as Pavan. She is much slower, doesn't touch nearly as high, and time will tell if she has the same mentality as Pavan. That mentality is probably what sets Pavan apart from all others. She comes to play when it matters most. Does Licht have it? We'll have to wait and see.

I agree, Licht is not in the same class as Pavan and I would agree about her footspeed. However I'm quite confident that under the direction of strength coach Laura Pilakowski that she will be in the best shape of her life in about a year! The Huskers don't NEED her to be a Pavan. She reminds me more of a Reitsma type body with more personal fire. Players like Pavan don't come along every day. If Houghtelling is healthy I'm not sure how much time Licht will see on the court. Time will tell.
Teams that challenge for the national title need POY type players. NU will have two(fingers crossed) in Pavan and Houghtelling. The following year if healthy Larson should be able to step into that role. So that then means we need someone in this class to be of that caliber by their junior year!! I think we have time!! :-)

I agree that Husker fans are jumping the gun a little here. She simply isn't the athlete that Pavan is. Whether we can add "yet" to preceeding sentence is down the road a bit. I don't think she'll see the court a lot this season unless Griffin really steps up. I just don't see that happening.

We'll find out real quick in the showcase what kind of a factor she'll be. There's a few other questions to be answered. Who's going to replace Busbooms back row defense? What offense are they going to run (which will have a major impact on PT for Licht) How far has Houghtelling come back. Cook has alluded to both Coop & Stalls taking their games to another level. Is Gates going to be able to hold off Delano? How much deadlier is Larson going to be? From comments coming from Cook all off season----sounds like he's leaning towards running a 6-2 to work Licht into the offense and utilize her block. What this does to Holloway remains to be seen. Schwartz sound like she's on a mission to replace Busboom at libero so will this nix the 6-2?

So, the question remains... how many Licht's does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie pop?

Just means that the libero plays for someone other than the middles (who, I assume, would be subbing out with the setters). It might mean that Schwartz only plays for 3 rotations (for Licht). Or occasionally another rotation or two if one of the OH's are having a bit of a problem with a particular match-up. But I just don't see where a 6-2 rules out the use of a libero.

In their scrimmages Schwartz played in 5 of six rotations with the 6-2. I just don't like having Holloway on the bench.

5-1 Holloway. You can bet your life on it. I CERTAINLY HOPE SO!!!! Even if they need Licht on the court they could certainly do some creative things with a 5-1 having Pavan and Licht on the court! I've seen more creative things done in my lifetime!

If Houghtelling is good to go, and all signs say she is, you won't see Licht on the court much, if at all. She won't play ahead of Larson, Hotel or Pavan, so why burn a year of eligibility?

I certainly don't disagree with you but something tells me getting her to come at semester and then redshirting her might not sit so well with her or her family. Of course I'm NOT claiming to know her or her family. :-)
