If Houghtelling is good to go, and all signs say she is, you won't see Licht on the court much, if at all. She won't play ahead of Larson, Hotel or Pavan, so why burn a year of eligibility? Very good point. The upside to having Licht not redshirt is that she'd be available if for some reason (knock on wood) Larson, Pavan or Houghtelling couldn't play, but weigh that against the value of having her available in another future season when she'll have more impact! Licht now...? Licht later...? I'm not the coach of course, but I like the idea of a redshirt season too. (Assuming the decision's been made on 5-1 vs. 6-2, of course, but I'm in the camp that thinks a 5-1 is better for Nebraska as well.)

ummm, see Rachel Holloway! Oh yea, kinda forgot about that one, she even skipped her entire senior year. But I thought her redshirt was more to heal a nagging leg injury. Maybe I'm thinking of someone else.

there certainly were medical reasons as it relates to Holloway, however it sure makes sense to not burn a year of eligibility.

Gosh, sometimes I miss the good old days when freshmen just expected to put in time on the bench their first year while the upperclassmen showed them what it was all about.
Life was simpler back then. Ice cream was more creamy. Peanut butter more buttery. And presidents more presidential.

Logic would say yes to that, but Cook seems to be hummin' a different tune. He's said on more than one occasion he'd like to use a 6-2 depending on how quickly Licht develops. Then on other occasions he'll mention Schwartz's defense and move to own the libero position which has him thinking 5-1. Whatever the offense ends up being----sounds like Cook plans to play her.
