www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=3918&u_sid=2368173One key sentence: The Huskers placed a bid with the NCAA to host a 2007 regional at the NU Coliseum in Lincoln, said Butch Hug, Nebraska's assistant athletic director for events. [glow=red,2,300]The school could not submit a bid to host a regional at Qwest Center Omaha - like it did in 2005 - because of a scheduling conflict Dec. 7 and 8 at the arena.[/glow] Which once again raises the question "has Nebraska volleyball outgrown the coliseum?" It would seem if the quest had been available, with the crowds that would attract, this may have turned out different.

Does any Husker fan know why they didn't put the bid in for the Devaney Center instead of the Coliseum? Was the Devaney Center already committed to basketball or some other event?

To me, that is still a moot point. Florida had around 4,000 fans last year in their regional semi against Minnesota. That is about the average that Nebraska would hold in the Coliseum.

The NCAA likes to pretend that is hasn't regionalized the tourney but allowing Penn State and Florida to host regionals just proves otherwise. Florida getting two regionals in a row doesn't make any sense. If Nebraska submitted a bid, they should have been allowed to host.

With the NCAA it seems like everything is all about money well probably the only one of the 4 sites that may draw more fans than the NU coliseum would be @ Wisconsin & even then Wisconsin would have to make it to their own regional. I think that the NCAA had better sit down and think out what their priorities really are or what they should be.

I'd like to see the NCAA return to the days of not pre-selecting the regional hosts.
For the most part giving teams "a full year to plan and increase ticket sales" hasn't worked as well as allowing teams that are top 4 seeds (or other teams that earn their way into the regionals if top 4 seeds lose) to host.
Nebraska and Washington both outdew for their regional hosting what they drew per match during the season, however, I'm suspect that they would have also drawn as (or nearly) as well if they had been top 4 seeds and earned the regional hosting in that manner rather than being given the hosting rights.

Hear, hear! How does one join the committee? Our committee is a non-profit entity -- that is, we've never been able to scam collect enough money to make a profit, so we just finally gave up. Instead, you become eligible to join the committee when you provide the chairman - that's me - with URLs/links to three instances where you have corrected someone's incorrect use of "Begging the Question" in an online forum. If you do not have three such instance, you must provide the Membership Sub-Committee - that's me - with links to ten instances where you have valiantly corrected egregious errors in logical thinking or rhetorical structure. If you do not yet have ten such instances on hand, just start reading any VolleyTalk thread about Hawai'i. It is considered poor form to use Off-the-Net posts by goGopherBill, because that would be like shooting Minnesota Walleye fish in a barrel. ...of water. ...water frozen by Minnesota winters so that the fish are not only confined but also immobile and, mercifully, already dead. ...dead not from the cold but from despair over the outlook of their UofM 2007 volleyball season.

I think that Minnesota will surprise some people next year. With the recruits coming in we will be pretty good, and Kyla has definitely stepped up her game to a new level.

Do you mean 2007 or 2008?

Tell me if I have this correct.
Suppose the fish _are_ despairing and it's about the 2007 season. The 2007 season does not look so good to the fish. This has upset the fish. So given the fish are upset, it must be about the 2007 season. Which will be bad. And upset the fish. So let's shoot them.

Make sure you put him in a barrel first.

Do you still have the liquid nitrogen to ensure the water freezes quickly enough to prevent him from escaping the barrel?
