UCLA Up 2-0
30-24, 30-24.
Wilton made a setting change towards the end of game 2 putting in Beckwith for Tuyay. Tuyay was not setting the middles at all (through 3/4 of game 2 UH middles had 3 kills only). And when he would set the middles it was off of bad passes or too low.
Passing hurting Hawaii.

What a disppointing SEASON for Hawaii. I know many thought it was suppose to be a "rebuilding" year, but losing to NAIA Cal Baptist, 12 loses in a season, getting swept to end the year, losing 3 games after being up 2-0, being ranked #1 for a week, suspension of players.
Next year, I hope Hawaii gets another OH because they can't afford to have Thomas as a passer, he needs to be at MB.

I have a few quick things to say about this match.
First. Thanks OC16 for airing the match. The camera work and editing was actually very good! I tried to listen in to the announcers, but it didn't take long before the mute got hit and the radio came on.
Scott Robbs did an excellent (as usual) job of the play-by-play. In fact, what I was most impressed with was his timing! I'm not sure if the tv broadcast was minorly delayed or not, but Scott was right on top of EVERY ball touch and player. Impressive.
About the volleyball match: UH looked uninspired most of the match, but even moreso when Kimo came out. Don't get me wrong, I like Beckwith, he's a great setter, but I didn't see either setter really take control of the players.
Passing was pretty nasty for UH... ugh! I'm not entirely sold that it was UCLA's serving, either. I thought the two teams looked to serve fairly even, just UH's passing was far from even. They pretty much gave the game away on overpasses alone.
Thanks for a great 4 years, Kimo! Thanks seniors! Good luck to UCLA, they played as the better team tonight. Looking forward to seeing you back in Hawaii for the Final Four.

I also had to turn down the tv volume and turn up the radio. I like Russell and Dave, but Scott is clearly better.
IB, I agree with you about Hawaii looking uninspired. In my opinion, they looked tense from the beginning and they usually don't do well when they come out like that. I may be showing my bias here, but while Beckwith may have better skills at setter, Kimo has more experience and I feel he goes after the ball more. I can't think of a player this season, besides Alfred, who will chase the ball down and/or dive like Kimo.
And passing definitely killed UH. We desperately need someone who passes well. I miss Naveh and Eyal at times like this. Even Aaron was good.
I will miss the seniors. I wish them all the luck. And I thank them because it was a pleasure watching them play.

I can't think of a player this season, besides Alfred, who will chase the ball down and/or dive like Kimo. I think Kimo is a better setter hands down right now, than Beckwith is right now. However, Beckwith has more potential than Kimo has, mostly due to his height and because, make no mistake, Brian is a very good setter now... just lacks the experience. He will be amazing the next three years. Definitely a player to build a program around, in my opinion... also, having him finish off the season kind of makes a statement that you're ready for rebuilding with this guy, now. I really think that Scott Robbs hit the nail on the head about UCLA serving at Delano all night... moving Thomas back to MB will virtually solve most of the passing issues for UH. He's an amazing attacker and blocker, but he has some work to do with passing. I would expect that Kimo will make a run at the AVP... I'm not really sure about the others, though, not many opportunities for volleyball players after college.

Playing in Europe is always an option. Especially for someone like Kimo. It seems opportunities for success on the AVP are few and far between.
