This article explains it better www.idahostatesman.com/104/story/82227.htmlWAC members San Jose State and Hawaii are among 23 NCAA Division I teams that will lose football scholarships under the NCAA's academic progress standards, the organization announced Wednesday. The NCAA released academic progress rates (APR), which measure eligibility and retention of student athletes, for every program at every Division I school. Boise State, Idaho and Idaho State will not lose scholarships in any sports. Idaho State received a public warning from the NCAA for its football team's poor performance. Teams scoring less than 925 — the equivalent of a 60 percent graduation rate under the NCAA's formula — received warning letters and could face harsher sanctions over the next three years. A second offense during that time would result in a reduction of practice time or games played. A third offense would result in disqualification from NCAA tournaments. ISU scored an 870 in football. Only Florida International (nine scholarships) was penalized more than San Jose State's football program. Several WAC programs face immediate penalties. • In addition to its football penalty, San Jose State will lose two scholarships in women's basketball, .99 scholarships in men's soccer and .32 scholarships in baseball. The football, men's soccer and men's cross country programs received public warnings. • Fresno State will lose 1.17 baseball scholarships and received a public warning for its men's basketball program. • Louisiana Tech will lose one scholarship in men's basketball and .05 baseball scholarships. Louisiana Tech is one of 14 men's basketball teams to lose scholarships. Nationally, 81 teams face immediate scholarship reductions and more than four dozen were flagged as chronic offenders.

APR is a way for the NCAA to measure the Academic Progress (Report) for DI schools based on individual sports. The APR is calculated as a way to judge if student athletes are progressing toward the goal of graduation. - You can find more details on how it is calculated on the ncaa web site.
This is the second year for the report. The teams that do well are put on the public recognition list. Teams that do poorly are penalized. Teams that continue to fall below standards face increasing penalties.
Basic penalties involved a reduction in scholarships - some football programs lost up to 9 full scholarships. Next year, the chronic offenders face an increase in the reduction of scholarships AND the reduction in the amount of allowable practice time for those sports.
It is an effort to put the STUDENT back in student-athlete for some schools.
On the list, I only saw one volleyball program who was on the "bad list"

The orginal post had to do with the women's volleyball team having a perfect score of 1000 for 2006.Their muti year score is 976.which is very good . Hawai'i football will lose one scholarship.

Once again this years perfect score of 1000 raised their muti-year score from 962 to 976. This Public Recognition Awards List is for schools with muti- year scores from 975 to 1000.These teams posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sport so they missed this list by a few points, we'll be there next year,KEY WORDs - multi year score.
