How odd. I suppose they are trying to allow each venue more time to prepare and promote the event. I am not completely sure I like the idea that Hawaii is hosting the WAC tournament. It’s certainly nice from a fan stand point, but I would prefer them to be on the road for more of a challenge before the NCAA tournament. Of course, considering that the tournament is no longer during Thanksgiving weekend and class is still in session, moving the tournament around to different venues allows the players to still attend class. Hopefully Hawaii will schedule a tough tournament during Thanksgiving weekend on the road to get prepped for the NCAA tournament.

While I'm happy for Hawai'i getting the tourny, it's going to be very tough to get fans from other schools to be able to afford the trip.
At least we've gotten fair warning, tho!

Very few have ever traveled in the history of this Tournament. Hawai'i has been the only exception averaging somewhere around 700-1000 but I'm not expecting many will be making the trip to Las Cruces, so success will be up to the locals in both cases.

True, but a huge reason was that the tournament was held during Thanksgiving. Even the die-hard fans have trouble making it unless you have family in the area the tournament was held at. But a week before Thanksgiving is easier so fans can fly to the tournament and still make it back without interfering with the holidays. Fortunately, both locations should have a good turn out from the local fans. NMSU fans will want to show up to see another rematch with Hawaii. Hawaii fans in general will still turn out for the tournament. We should see thousands of fans in attendance at both locations.

Thanksgiving won't stop Hawaii fans from showing up. I'm 100% positive the Stan Sherrif will be up close or even at full capacity - at least when Hawaii takes the court.

I'd be really surprised if Hawaii averages over 5K per day for the WAC tourney, much less get to full capacity. The home attendance numbers aren't that great when the competition is a WAC team. Add to the fact that it will be the third matchup of the season between these teams, and Hawaii will likely be the only ranked team, and I think many people might just as well watch it at home (if it's televised).

shoji's response by the news
-- from an article by jason kaneshiro jkaneshiro@starbulletin.com
"I think it's really good for our team," Shoji said.
"Instead of us having to get on a plane (for the WAC tournament) then come home for the (NCAA tournament) announcement, we'll already be home. That's huge for us. We might be able to be home the whole of November."

I didn't think about that - Your right. I wouldn't be surprised if we averaged our usual 7+ though. This is "Hawaii".
