When Pete Waite was commenting about the number of teams in the final four who went on overseas trip, it got me wondering how often the winner did go on one the summer before. I believe you can only make a trip like this every four years. I know the two most recent years Nebraska won the National Championship, they had gone. Can you guys help fill in the blanks on who else has and where they went? I'll fill in the table below as more info comes in. Year | NCAA Winner | Destination
| 2006 | Nebraska | Japan/China | 2005 | Washington | No trip | 2004 | Stanford | | 2003 | USC | Puerto Rico | 2002 | USC | | 2001 | Stanford | | 2000 | Nebraska | China | 1999 | Penn State | | 1998 | Long Beach State | | 1997 | Stanford | | 1996 | Stanford | | 1995 | Nebraska | No trip |

The 2001 should-have-been-winners Long Beach State team toured Germany or the Czech Republic (I think) the previous summer.

You don't have to go overseas to win a championship. Just ask Stanford with their 6.

Overseas trips are just junkets.......recruiting tools that all top programs today must use.....keeping up with the Joneses is expensive..... And as correctly pointed out, rarely reap immediate rewards with a National Championship...LBS went to Japan in 1997---lost in the semi-finals.....won in 98....Went to Europe in 2001, lost in finals.....neither team won a championship but both were in the FF-----not bad I think

not necessarily...so many teams have recruited from overseas, it often gives these girls families and friends a chance to actually see them play
