Evgenia Artamonova Russia's most decorated hero of volleyball will return to national team for Beijing and will likely reaquaint with Karpol and Uralochka next club season.
Russia will have Godina, Gamova, Kilic, and Artamonova for Olympic roster, Cuba will have difficult time to overthrow Russia for gold medal.

Interesting reunion at Uralochka! ;D Will Uralochka drop to the second division or will they find their way back to Superliga? As far as NT, how do you get all of them on the court at once? Artamanova as libero I guess makes the most sense. I can't imagine putting Kilic back in the middle (she played there briefly)... Maybe Godina in them middle? Or one of them comes off the bench. You're still a Cuba believer? I want to be, but the quantities of unforced errors don't seem to be the type of thing that will correct itself in the summer. Admittedly, I haven't seen much of Cuba this summer, but some of the errors I've seen are BAD!

Yeah, wouldn't Brazil be Russia's number one competitor?? Cuba returns a whole lotta people, but ... their results have been ... well, all over the place!! but who knows what one year can do (in terms of preparing for Beijing).
But Artamanova, wow ... does she still even play?!!

where did you hear the news?
As for the top contenders for 2008, I think it's Brazil, Russia and China. But all three teams must pray for their veteran's good heath... For Brazil, if they don't have Souza, they'll have a hard time to compete for the medals. For Russia, without Gamova, Sokolova and Godina, they finished last in this recent tournament. China is forced to get some new blood this year and the result is good. But they are still betting on Feng and Zhao. And the key player Zhou has also passed her prime time. She really can't jump that high these days.
Cuba could be a dangerous team but I don't see much potential from them. Santos, perhaps? She's really improved a lot from last year. However, Ramirez seems to be stepping backward, and Ruiz is getting old... I'm not even sure if Barros could make it next year...

How does anybody keep up with the talent level on international teams? Travel to tournaments in Japan and Puerto Rico? Watch on jerky videos that don't show much via perspective anyway? Have a cable connection called Seria A Today? Amazed that anyone can have a good opinion on aging superstars that play thousands of miles away. Did go to Montrueux a few years ago,; amazing experience, although I guess the top teams don't always bring their top players.

Interesting reunion at Uralochka! ;D Will Uralochka drop to the second division or will they find their way back to Superliga? Superliga contains 14 teams instead of 12 next season so Uralochka remains.

YouTube is another way. Even in the USA, if you want to pay attention you can. Montreux is right after most European leagues finish and the players need a break. Because it is basically a glorified friendly tournament teams can send and play their up and coming players.

When the setter is in the front row, she would set to front row hitters either at LS or RS (there would be no middle attack) for three rotations). It could be an interesting situation. I'm not a big fan of Godina as a serve receiver, and you can't lose Gamova obviously. Anyhow, how is Artamanova holding up as a hitter?

That is an interesting call brybry2. I'm pretty sure Caprara doesn't have it in him, but I'd like to be proven wrong! ;D

Predicting the outcome of the olympics is nearly impossible, anything could happen, why can't we just wait and see what happens. By the way, someone mentioned the potential of Cuba lies in the hands of Rosir Calderon, and NancY Carillo, just to name a few, I believe that they are still in the picture, nobody has the medaling experience of Cuba, they are always in it. As far as Artamanova is concerned, I couldn't see her adding anything to the Russian team, shes old news i don't care how good she was in the past, it reminds me of Tara Cross-Battle on the 2004 team, pretty much there for moral support and some defenisive relief. Its going to be an exciting summer!!!

So what is the scoop on Sokolova? Is she done with the national team? Or is there a chance?
