Now, if Hawaii wants to win another national championship, Aneli would need to be joined by a team consisting of Llundquist, Bown, Willoughby, Kahumoku, Ah-Mow and Nalani Yamashida (sp?). Puka, I know it must tear your heart out not to have a contender in BYU, but deep down you are a Wahine fan too.

Jen S was the #1 player in her graduating class coming out of high school where as Aneli was not, and furthermore Jen S has played on a national championship winning team. I don't think Jennifer Saleaumua EVER won a NCAA Championship. She's only been to one FF (Final) as I can recall.

Blah Blah Blah. I don't think anyone is expecting Aneli to be a player of the year candidate. However she will be the heart and soul of the wahine.
By the way Jen S was not the top prospect out of her class, Umm hello it was, Ogonna!

Actually, I've met several.....Jocelyn Robins at a wedding in Hawaii, Leah Karrati (sp?) here in Utah, Cecelia Goods in a grocery store in Hawaii several years ago. Anyhooo, back to the discussion......I never use D1 "upper echelons" (whatever that may be) as a gauge for world class players only for the fact that many of our so called D1 upper echelons players go on and choke on the international level. With that said, if anyone on the current UH team has the best shot at playing for the national team and succeeding at it, it would be Aneli as a libero.

August 24 isn't too far away. Let's see what Aneli can do. I hope she lives up to the hype that the fans here are building around her. If she does, I'll be a fan.

By the way Jen S was not the top prospect out of her class, Umm hello it was, Ogonna! Really? I thought Saleaumua was the top prospect. I believe she was the national high school POY. I was pretty sure because in 2000, Hawaii was only going to lose Sudduth on the left side and everyone expected Saleaumua to come in and fill that spot. This was before Hawaii went through a huge overhaul and lost several players due to some odd circumstances. Perhaps Ogonna was tops in one poll and Saleaumua was just given POY in another poll.

I found this in the Internet: "High School Saleaumua enjoyed an impressive high school career at Bonita Vista High School for Coach Carolyn Taeatafa-Hudson • Named Volleyball Magazine’s National High School Player of the Year in 2000 after guiding Bonita Vista to a 43-0 record, the 2000 CIF state championships and a No. 1 national ranking • Set a CIF record for single-match kills with 57 in the state championship match • Selected as the San Diego Union-Tribune Co-Female Athlete of the Year, the California Interscholastic Federation Player of the Year, the California Gatorade Player of the Year, the Paul Mitchell All-American Player of the Year and the Metro League MVP as a senior • Competed for the Coast Volleyball club, winning the USVBA silver medal in the 17-and-under division in 1999 and the bronze medal in the 17 open division the following year • Also played three seasons of basketball at Bonita Vista • Comes from impressive bloodlines, as her uncle is former Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Dan Saleaumua • Originally signed a letter-of-intent with Hawaii for the 2001 season, but never enrolled in school • Contacted the NU coaches during the fall of 2001 about the possibility of joining the Huskers and enrolled at Nebraska in January of 2002."

It's correct, Roy, two different polls. Volleyball Magazine vs Gatorade poll. Which is more prestigious?

It's correct, Roy, two different polls. Volleyball Magazine vs Gatorade poll. Which is more prestigious? I think people put more stock into the Volleyball Magazine poll as they know volleyball more than those who select the Gatorade poll. I suspect that year was a little closer and those two were both considered top prospects. This year, Klineman is the top prospect and everyone kind of agreed that she was the top player. That is similar to 1999 when Tom was the top prospect and she was considered more talented than the rest of the field. I would suspect that the 2001 class was probably closer to the 2005 class with Larson and Barboza (and even Fawcett and Akinradewo) are all considered top preps and are more interchangable as the top 4.

How high can Aneli sky again? A little small for the prototypical DI player but truly is an asset. I don't think her height is a problem at all. I remember watching the Final Four in Hawaii when Pacific was in town. Elsa Stegemann was a 5'10" OH, but man did she pack some heat and made blockers respect her.
