Developing fan support is the job of the administration and program, not the fans. It is a combination of both. Come on key ! You have got to love the game enough to make the effort to go to the event. I am just not buying that too many other things to do garbage.

Note that most of the Stanford students won't be on campus for another month. And most of the parents don't live anywhere nearby. I would have been there, but I am traveling (on vacation).
There will be plenty of fans in the stands when the season starts.

I went to the scrimmage and there were maybe 50 people watching the match. Fine attendence......how was the food?

I would not be surprised to see Ailes as Best Libero in the Pac-10 (of course, this was just two games, take it easy). Well, with no more Seilhammer and Jillian Davis, I think that's very possible. And I think Tama is inconsistent. It's about time Stanford got a top notch libero. Sydney Donahue.

First Team Outside - Barboza, Fisher Middle - Akinradewo, Browne Opp - Waller Setter - Kehoe Libero - Ailes Second Team Outside - Front Row - One of the male assistant coaches Outside - Back Row - Klineman Middle - Front Row - Browne, The other male assistant coach Middle - Back Row - Girard Opp - Lichtman Setter - Evans Libero - Fishburn How does Browne play MB for both teams at the same time? When she was subbed out for one team, did she go and play for the other team? Is that how it was done? Or was it more loose, as in, sometimes she played for the first team and other times she played for the second team?

At the same Stanford Scrimmage I counted 147 at one point in Game 2. Just in case someone asked. Had about 80-90 at the BBQ, but that includes the players and coaches. Actually not a BBQ, but good food and good conversation with players and Dunning. Dunning doesn't know the starters yet, this scrimmage and the one on Weds will decide, and health, although all except Janet O should be fine soon. With the two coaches playing some, it's hard to tell about all players. Evans set more to the two coaches than Barboza and Flouke. Not much said here about Alex Fisher, so I shall. Stanford is very deep, Fisher is one reason, so really hard to guess how much time she'll get. But she could be quite a player. She missed 2 years because of shoulder and knee injuries, good good in the Spring, but now is really healthy and much better than in the Spring. Lot's of competition for a team with 3 returning A-A's and the next Godess, Alix.

50? Sounds like the Backlash Against Stanford Talent Acquisition! still has some work to do. We were forecasting 3. BASTA! You have to do more advertising, radio, TV spots, etc! This board isn't helping one bit!

It's supposed to grow, like, by groundswell.

Somehow I don't see Stanford boosters eating greasy burgers, brats or hot dogs.
Garden Burgers,Mahi Mahi, grilled shrimp and Cobey's kick ass poke washed down by imported beer ,white wine and catered by Wolfgang Puck.

Maples was not cordoned off--there were over 150 watching in total, even though the scrimmage was an hour late in starting. As for the food, I thought the highlight was the white truffle oiled popcorn (without the grated aged reggiano parmigiano, which when combined with the fleur de sel made it a tad too salty). 2007 was a great year particularly around Alba and I think the quality of the white truffles was better than the 2006's (from the Tuscany area). As for the players, truly amazingly deep talent. All the frosh were impressive, most notably at this scrimmage Cassidy L. and Gabi A.

I think Stanford should be special this year. There's tons of talent on the outside, Akinradewo gets better every day, and Kehoe always finds a way to win. However, I think the biggest question marks will be a year from now.
Girard graduates this year, and missing out on Gil will put pressure on Browne and Okogbaa. I know she was the #2 recruit at one point, but Okogbaa hasn't really shown that. Browne sounds like she's a year or two away--hopefully I'm wrong.
I also wonder about who they have waiting in the wings when Kehoe graduates. Evans? Lichtman? Lichtman is a utility player, but if Evans doesn't pan out, can Lichtman set at a National Champ. caliber level?
I suppose landing Murphy would provide insurance on the RS/S. Was there any word of the Cardinal targets in the next couple of recruiting classes?

StuffU gave a great summary of the scrimmage earlier, so I just wanted to add a few things I noticed yesterday.
Starting spots that appear up for grabs are at libero and maybe OPP. Ailes was impressive and fun to watch, but her serve receive didn't stand out to me. Fishburn also looked good, and provided positive vocal leadership. I'm interested to see who Dunning plays. The Erin Waller who dominated in the NCAAs last year appears to be here to stay. She looked phenomenal yesterday. I'd say the job is all but hers except for the fact that Lichtman was equally impressive. Her offense is a step down from Waller's, but her passing and defense is a step up. Again, it'll be interesting to see how Coach Dunning uses these two.
Add Foluke to the short list of Player of the Year candidates. She was absolutely killing the ball, her serve looks really tough, and her block is more active than last year. She even made some impressive digs. It looks like a lot of her raw ability has turned into bona fide talent, and I can't wait to see what she's able to do this season. If Stanford wins the national championship, Foluke will be the X Factor that gets them there. While we're on the subject of the POY, I think you can take Barboza off that list. She looks good but not special. I expect Klineman to have a bigger impact in POY talks than Barboza.
Hard to find a position or area where this team looks like it has a weakness. It should be a fun season to be a Stanford fan.

Betcha Cassidy would make a great setter for the 2008 Cardinal.

Betcha Cassidy would make a great setter for the 2008 Cardinal. Who's this Betcha Cassidy, and why would she make a great setter? If she's the setter in 2008, would Dunning get a walk-on setter to run a 6-2? Then he'd have Betcha Cassidy and some damn kid.
