I noticed that wisconsin has posted their needs list on prepvolleyball.com. And according to that listing they are still looking for a MB. According to that same posting they want someone that can play at a top twenty level right away. It seems to me they have four scholarships available, with two filled by nellie gabrielsen and elle ohlander, were they planning on keeping the fourth one for 2009, or is there someone out there that they expect to sign in addition to the mb they have posted on prepvolleyball.com? Anybody out there have any guesses as to what Pete's plans are? If no body else signs for 2008, the badgers will have 10 scholarship players, plus faye McCormack, unless they plan on giving her a scholarship for 2008. Would be nice to see another middle sign. Is it possible the badgers are in the running for one of the remaining hold outs for 2008?

Is anyone else surprised that a program at the level of Wisconsin's would be using the PrepVB want ads?

I don't think the Badgers are desperate, rather this is a reflection of how competitive recruiting has become. The wealth is spreading more and more, therefore pereniall top 20 teams like wisconsin are having to compete with schools outside the top twenty. Players are choosing schools where they can play sooner rather than later on teams that are stacked with talent. Just take a look at the recruiting lists for 2008 in the big ten and you will see numerous teams signing players in the top 50. Prepvolleyball.com's 2008 needs list is just another way for schools and high school players alike to see whats out there. If you take a look at the list you will see schools like pepperdine, wisconsin, ohio state, colorado etc. using this tool. It is another way for schools to get exposure and for student athletes to expose their talents to those schools who still have scholarships available.

I still don't get it. Shouldn't these schools have identified the athletes _they_ want?
I'm not saying it's wrong. But it strikes me as odd.

Oh, wait a second. Is this a way to advertise for transfers?

Oh, wait a second. Is this a way to advertise for transfers? That had not occurred to me. But that would make sense.
