Quick note, I emailed Russ Rose making a fan request of having one, if not both, of the double header matches available to be seen online. The response was fairly neutral: "Thanks for the note and it will be quite a challenge this weekend-as far as the webcast question? The good news is you communicated with Jen and Greg as they are the people that understand that question. I’m trying to figure out how to control Texas. All the best Coach" Anyhow, it seems out of his hands, but I copied Jen (similar to SID) and Greg (Marketing) as appropriate dept heads that would oversee webcasting a match. I found their email addresses on the PSU sports website: {removed, please read response further down}. If you'd like to increase the chances of having a webcast, please feel free to send a small note encouraging them to do so. Thanks!

These matches should be the premier preseason TV event. Especially because it is very possible these two teams will play each other a third time, in December. I'd buy it on PPV if it were available.

My personal feelings about her* aside, Jen Armsen is one of the best around at doing what she does. If there were any way for this to happen, Jen could make it so.
She's the one you want to talk to.
*She's a Penn St fan, but I try not to hold it against her. I figure its her job, so she has to be. Thus, I resist the urge to throw wadded up paper at her during the match. Considerately, she does the same for me.

I just sent them an email also, questioning WHY[/i] isn't this match on TV of some kind??? Maybe multiple emails from both rabid and latent fans will cause a change, albeit not this weekend.
Anybody know if this match will be on TexasSports.tv archive?

They've only ever provided streams for home matches. I don't know if they add video of away matches to their archives after the fact.

Russ should get one of those tiny pen cams. The Rose Pen-POV. I'd watch.

The Penn State-Texas matches are being used as test broadcasts for the Big Ten Network. I'm hoping they will be aired at a later date but that isn't something I have control over. They were initially scheduled to air locally in State College but since this is the first-ever telecast for the BTN, they did not allow that to happen as they could not promise a 'clean' broadcast. There has been mention of a "soft launch" of the BTN on DirecTV using these matches, but again, I have nothing to do with that, nor does Penn State. Like Coach Rose is trying to figure out how to handle Texas, I'm trying to figure out how to handle the BTN. The whole webcast issue relates to the above. Because these matches are "technically" on television, TV owns the rights to the matches and all related broadcasting media, meaning that when matches are televised, they are not allowed to be webcast. I believe the BTN also has rights to all of the matches with regards to webcasting. I'll check on this as it is handled by someone else in our department. I hope this answers some questions and I'm sorry that if it causes frustrations, believe me, I understand. I do know our video department will be there to film clips - under the allotted time allowed by the BTN - so check our website sometime next week for those. And cross your fingers that the broadcasts run smoothly so perhaps it will be shown at a later date. Thanks for understanding and not taking it out on us, as it's not really our decision.

Thanks for that explanation. I don't like the result of course, but it's very understandable that BTN would want to do what they're doing. Here's hoping they find a way to do a delayed broadcast of at least one of those matches.
Thanks!

Thanks for your explanation. Makes perfect sense, and hopefully people will read this before sending a firestorm of emails. I'll edit out the email addresses from my previous post. Here's hoping it all works out! Maybe in the future when working out TV/webcasting rights, Penn State can retain the right to webcast home games with the exception of NCAA tourney games and require a stipulation stating such in their agreements with networks, similar to what Texassportstv does.

Good luck on that, but I'm guessing that Penn St is going to be beholden to the BTN. Don't expect the conference to support the schools in this regard.

Everyone needs to remember that college athletics is about more important factors than simply the teams or the fans. Let's not lose sight of what's really important.
