Chuck Erbe was the up official for the match. That would have been interesting to see... Well, that corpse needs to hang up his whistle. More tomorrow on the weekend. Ok, here's more: OSU brought two teams to Muncie. There was the Game 2 team that should have lost to BSU, and there was the block coverage, dig-everything-like-goldminers and power offense. I'm not sure why Calhoun is a starter. For the weekend, her numbers were 9K-14E-58A. Yipes. She's good in the back row though, which isn't a problem with this team. The other frosh DS, Syms, is fine back there. Ami Stevens could easily be the B10 DPOY. She's phenomenal in the back row and on the serve. Katie Dull had a baaad match against BSU; she reminds me of Dolgner from UW. She really nails the Wilson, but where exactly he goes is anybody's guess. It will be interesting to see how they fare against bigger opps next week in Ft. Collins. Oh, Maine has a tiny lil outside hitter, Lindsay Allman, who is great fun to watch! As for Muncie, hopefully someone will decide that two or three signs directing to Ball State aren't enough. Everyone I talked to got lost. Geez. It's not THAT big of a town. And the announcer? He's an absolute Tool. I've never heard such unprofessional editorializing of points. "YIKES!" "NOT THIS TIME!" "YESSSSS!" When the opponent scored, his inflection was like a little kid who didn't get his way. He thinks he's funny, but it's really out of place. Every home announcer uses a more exciting tone when his team scores a point, but to blatantly politick from the microphone has no place. Besides, he doesn't know the game at all. "Point Cardinals." "Point Buckeyes." That was it. No "Kill off the block by ___," etc. Why bother? There's a scoreboard for that-- not to mention a 97 y.o. man who barely has enough CO2 to push through a whistle.
