By far the most interesting match-up so far this season. I'm interested in just how good Stanford is (although I have a pretty good idea, they are scary good) also gives some gauge to where the best match up against Nebraska, who appears to be the best team in the country. Having played several matches, both coaches will have seen enough to put together great game plans, and push each others buttons. I think the match has more importance to PSU who appears to be trying to decide what system/line-up, gives them the best chance to win a championship.

Agree on the PSU/Stanford match. Adding the NU/Texas match tomorrow will tell for certain if NU & Stanford are as far ahead of everybody else as it seems at this juncture. But, of course, stranger things have happened than NU and/or Stanford being upset by those opponents. Thankfully, NU/Texas is live on CSTV and Stanford/PSU will be webcast for free at www.YaleBulldogs.com. ;D

The team with the best ball control should win = STANFORD! PSU has size but lacks that ball control as shown when they played Nebraska. ESTRELLA

Barboza/Hodge Akinradewo/Haromotto Girard/Walbridge Fawcett/Klineman
will all basically cancel each other out. Estrella is right, it'll all come down to ball control and whoever's RS decides to show up.

We need to give some props to PSU this non-conference season. In the past we have ripped them for not having a difficult non-conference schedule. But facing Texas, NU, and Stanford in the non-conference season is more than challenging. We will see if it pays off at tournament time.

ESTRELLA Stanford has better ball control, but when Kehoe has to take the digs, their transition offense suffers considerably. If I were Russ I would have Lefts work on line shots/tips and my Rights hit the angle when 1-on-1. I think the outcome of this match is 50-50. Stanford will be a beast by November, but having watched several matches so far, they are still vulnerable.

Estrella is right, it'll all come down to ball control and whoever's RS decides to show up. Barboza can pass and play defense... Hodge might be a stronger hitter... might doesn't mean better or smarter. Akinradewo is better than Harmotto. However in Harmotto's defense, she might be much better with a real setter. Girard is also better than Walbridge no comparisons IMO. Fawcett has one shot... hard cross. She cannot pass and is a liability in the backrow. Klineman is similar, but she can hit any shot, at a much higher contact point I might add and block well. Neither team has displayed a strong RS player this year. Waller, if on, is better than what I've seen from PSU. Setters.... no contest ... Bryn.

Tyorder has settled it Stanford is better in every phase of the game, at every position. Stanford wins 30-14, 30-11, 30-19 (Stanford subbed every starter out after game 2) He did leave out That Dunning is leaner and better dressed than Russ. But in Russ's defense he does live in Pennsylvania where there isn't real shopping.

I think that Stanford will probably win because of their setting and ball control, which seems to be stronger than Penn State's at this point. Also, the Big Ten just seems to be finding ways to lose against good teams this year, so maybe there is a hex on somewhere. I don't know why PSU doesn't set Price more. I think she could probably put the ball down from the right side and give their offense more options.

That way, with the 3 hour time shift, Home Court, and Russ's wardrobe, PSU wins easily!

Thanks for the info, MPH... I was just hoping to see the match on a screen bigger than my old computer screen!
Hammer, I don't know that Stanford will actually be bothered with a time shift this weekend. On 9/12 they play in Cincinnati at 7:30pm local time. Then on 9/14 they travel to New Haven for a match that evening and then play two on 9/15. Wouldn't the team just keep heading east after Ohio on Wednesday?

That's why I'm saying it would be a better match. Give $tanford a little disadvantage (or more adversity) when playing PSU.

Have you ever seen Fawcett play in person? She touches something like 10' 6" and hits the ball at a high point. Also has shots. While not a great passer or defender, is good in the back row - not a liability. If Brown ever break-out on the right side, look-out.
