Bearclause must be at the match. I'm sure he'll give details. Cal wins 30-19, 20, 25. Anna Cmaylo is out, not sure for the season or not.

I have heard that Santa Clara has zero chance, what with Cymalo out and the rest of the Broncos sporting beer bellies...

Reilly is 5th in the pac-10 in hitting percentage (.423%) and easily leads the conference in blocks (2.33 bpg). Can't wait to see what she does in Pac-10 play.

Sorry - got home late after some late night shopping and an unexpected side trip.
Cal didn't play as well as they did at home against Minnesota. Still - I expected Santa Clara to play much tougher. They didn't look anything like a top 25 team tonight.
Angie Pressey didn't play or warm up. She was wearing a jacket all night and I don't think she was wearing VB shoes. I asked around, and it had nothing to do with the cramp she suffered last week. I think she was held out due to some minor injury. Am'ra Solomon performed admirably, but all in all I think all Cal supporters would have rather seen Angie playing. It's nice to have a lot of depth.
I asked a former coach I knew in the stands what she thought. She was a bit diplomatic, but the gist was that it certainly wasn't very pretty to watch tonight. Santa Clara was absolutely derailed by their attack errors (partly due to Cal's blocking) and had extremely ineffective blocking all night.
Tonight the Cal libero player was switched (Murphy in G1/2 - Kathan in G3) like some of the early season matches. It worked out pretty well.

How did Krista Kelley play? I know that she's recovering from an injury so I am wondering if she's healed yet or not. With Cmaylo out indefinitely, Santa Clara is really going to struggle.

Not bad, I don't think. OTOH - I'm not that great at analyzing individual play unless it's someone I particularly paying attention to.

calbears.cstv.com/sports/w-volley/recaps/091407aaa.html I would not be surprised if Angie sits again today...if she needed resting for some nagging minor injury reason....no particular reason to put her out there with the start of Pac 10 coming up next week....and the Cardinal walks into Haas just to start things off. Maybe she was ill......even a wretched cold/flu can make you feel like death warmed over... Yellow card for Jon Wallace/box score...that is rare...we'll see what BC can tell about what was going on. Not being at full strength for the weekend surely taxes his patience.

HOw did Santa Clara fall so far.....so fast? Cal put a serious thumping on them. Injuries. Cmaylo has been hurt since the spring I believe and Krista Kelley entered camp banged up. The Broncos just don't have the depth the compensate for those losses, unfortunately. It's been a series of bad breaks for Santa Clara in regards to injuries. The only time they were fully healthy as a team was in 2005, when they made it to the Final Four. I think it would have been a different story if Cmaylo and Kelley were both healthy... but than again, injuries are a part of the game.

Cal is turning out to be an extremely good team this season.
Their team stats as of last weekend have been impressive overall:
2.56 aces / game - 16th nationally but 1st nationally for upper tier / AVCA ranked teams
4.30 blocks / game - 1st nationally
0.334 hitting percentage - 5th nationally
I won't be surprised if they end up being one of the elite teams in the Pac10 - I think they could become one of the top 3 Pac10 teams.
