This one ought to be pretty interesting.
Sarah Pavan had 16 kills @ .520 against Texas, but was basically sleepwalking against Texas Tech.
Kori Cooper had 9 kills @ .692 against Texas and 11 kills @ .579 against Texas Tech.
In the big match up between PSU and Stanford, Cynthia Barboza had lead Stanford with 21 kills but only hit .245. Leading PSU was Nichole Fawcett with 28 kills but only hit .197 and Megan Hodge had 20 kills but only hit .204. All the starting middles on both teams had good numbers, so they about cancelled each other out and I don't think one can make an argument that one was demonstrably better than another.
Added: Texas Juliann Faucette had 21 kills @.529 against Missouri after earlier defending Texas pride against NU with 20 kills @ .351.
I'll leave it to others to propose possible POWs, but my vote goes to NU's Kori Cooper, but I'm prejudiced. If not Cooper, then Faucette.

Maybe Bryn Kehoe?
Or someone from USC, winning over two ranked opponents?

Someone from Hawaii. Umm, they need the exposure.

If it doesn't go to Faucette then it shouldn't go to anyone in the Big 12.

If it doesn't go to Faucette then it shouldn't go to anyone in the Big 12. Agreed. After turning down my NU prejudice and considering the situation more rationally, Nat'l POW should be Juliann Faucette. Cooper definitely deserves props, though; maybe someday for her.

Hodge did not play like player of the week this weekend Like I have always said, Overrated!.....She has one year of experience and seems to still make freshmen mistakes for a #1 national player ranking....No offense of her, but just not impressed at all with her. At least not yet..... Juliann Faucette should get the nod over anyone playing with her numbers......! She's definitley living up to her #2 ranking......

Bryn Kehoe did play well against Penn State. Kept a cool head and kept her team in it until the end. Even thought the team had a few choice serving errors....
But Kehoe should have made All-Tourney Team. I don't understand how she didn't.

The AVCA POW award is a joke. It never goes to anyone other than a top 20 program.

But Kehoe should have made All-Tourney Team. I don't understand how she didn't. Kehoe was mistakenly left off the list. She did make it. Here's the correct one: MVP: Cynthia Barboza, Stanford Foluke Akinradewo, Stanford Bryn Kehoe, Stanford Nicole Fawcett, Penn State Christa Harmotto, Penn State Megan Hodge, Penn State Alexis Crusey, Yale Ayana Dyette, Delaware State

I don't think anyone posted this. Sports Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week
September 17, 2007

Missie Stidham, a 5-9 outside hitter for Sacramento State, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week for her MVP performance last weekend in leading the Hornets to the San Francisco Invitational Title. The senior transfer from Saint Mary's (Ca.), who has posted a double-double in every match but one this year, led the team to three wins at the event, including a 3-1 upset of then-No. 14 Cal Poly. In Sacramento State's opening match of the tournament, Stidham had 17 kills in 37 attempts and zero errors for a .459 hitting percentage, while also adding 14 digs and two total blocks in the sweep of San Francisco. In Sacramento State’s upset of Cal Poly, she had an incredible 29 kills and 27 digs, while adding one ace and two total blocks. She closed out the weekend with an 18-kill, 11-dig, two-ace performance in a sweep of Xavier. For the weekend, Stidham averaged 6.40 kills, 5.20 digs and 6.90 points per game. Stidham is the first player from Sacramento State to be named Sports Imports/AVCA Division I National Player of the Week. The Hornets are coached by Debby Colberg, who is retiring at the end of this season and will be inducted into the AVCA Hall of Fame at the AVCA Convention in December.

The AVCA POW award is a joke. It never goes to anyone other than a top 20 program. You ought to check out the NPOW awards over the years to know how wrong you are on that assessment. Or simply check out this weeks NPOW from Sacramento State (unofficially ranked at #31 in this weeks AVCA poll and not ranked at all last in last week's poll.)
