Would anyone have expected her to be performing this well... this early in the season?
She is the second leading scorer for Texas. One kill behind Hooker, but Juliann has a significantly higher hitting percentage... hitting over 350!

I was shocked she did so well against the Huskers. And please...can we not confuse her last name as Fawcett...and vice versa?

Yes, she certainly did well against the Huskers but I assume NU put more effort in during practice to stopping Hooker as they did not know until match time that Hooker would not be playing. When they play in Texas next month Faucette I'm sure will get as much practice attention as what Hooker gets as will Engel if she is playing at that time.
I'm not saying that NU will be able to slow her down just that she will get plenty of attention during practice for the match.

(snip) I'm not saying that NU will be able to slow her down just that she will get plenty of attention during practice for the match. A couple of excerpts from this article are relevent: www.theindependent.com/stories/09172007/hus_nuvb17.shtml"Basically it seems like she just bangs the ball as hard as she can to be honest with you," said Nebraska's Sarah Pavan, who admitted she had never heard of Faucette before this season. "When you're blocking a hitter that just goes up and hammers it, it makes it really hard because usually you're watching their shoulders to see where they're going to hit it." "It's good we got to see her," Cook said. "She's a different hitter. She gets on the ball really fast. She doesn't hit that high, but I think our block was chasing her really high. We have to make some adjustments on that. We could do a much better job on her, but she's a special player. She did a great job coming in here." ==== One thing about her attack that I noticed watching the TiVo slo-mo was that she really arches her back as she brings her arm back. Then she straightens her back as she arm swings. She's got some shoulders on her too -- pretty impressive for a freshman. She's about on a level with PSU's Fawcett and 2005's CHotel.

She is the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week
Juliann Faucette, Texas, OH, Fr., 6-2, San Diego, Calif./Westview
Faucette led No. 7 UT in points (44), kills (41) and hitting percentage (.437) against nationally top-ranked Nebraska and Missouri.
At NU on Wednesday, Faucette recorded 20 kills on .351 hitting while posting a 20-plus kill outing for the second match in a row. The performance was highlighted by nine kills on 16 swings in game three of the loss to the Huskers.
On Saturday, Faucette contributed 21 kills and a career-high .529 attack percentage to UT’s first conference victory of the season. She also added 11 digs in the win over the Tigers to record the second kill/dig double-double of her career.
For the week, Faucette averaged a Big 12-leading 7.33 points and 6.83 kills in addition to posting 2.00 digs per game.

Congrats Juliann, an award well deserved! Two very impressive outings this week.
I just wonder how Huskervbfan knows of this knowledge when it's not even on the Big XII website nor on Texas's website yet?!?!

JF is way ahead of Hooker at this point. She is much closer to having the complete game that Texas needs from the OH position. When Engle gets back they only have to sub out Hooker at the OH position. Their rotation will be stronger and they'll be able to run their subs more efficiently. So far she is very impressive.

Hooker will not be sub'd out with the return of Ashely. Both MBs are currently sub'd out. Destinee has become quite lethal attacking from the 10 foot line. Both Faucette and Hooker are playing all 6 rotations. Passing and defense will improve with Engle back as long as Jerritt does not try to run a 6-2 again. Texas is a better team at this point in time with Engle passing, backrow defense and hitting. <please no more 6-2 Jerritt> CONGRATS TO FAUCETTE!

I have to agree with Tex.... Engle's presence as an opposite rather than a setter is far better as far as team chemistry goes. This is what I think after seeing the team running both ways.

I've got a great job with lots of perks, great boss an excellent salary with an awesome corporation. My job doesn't have the visibility of coaching at a major D1 university where public scruitiny comes with the territory. VolleyTalk gives us fans the platform where we can all express our observations, opinions and scrutiny. Cheers!

Still has to show she can pass and play D, otherwise she's not solving Texas's biggest problem. Great hitter, however.
