It looks like it will be a while before a god box score is posted.
IU if probably on their way to their fllight home, and Minnesota's VB SID doesn't appear to be an any hurry to post anything after the match for some reason today.

Is that attendance right? OSU had twice as many at today's match. Believe me, I'm not boasting; I thought Minn always packed 'em in. Is something else going on? Vikings or some such?

*Hartmann broke out the pink ribbon today. Must be some bad feelings with Roehrig. *Sunday matches are going to kill attendance. I hate it for another reason: I have no doubt it's being done because of football and it stinks. *Short's going to be seeing a wall of Gophers in her dreams tonight. Which can't be pleasant. Jones had 9 blocks and it seemed like 20. *Tan had 14 digs and it seemed like 50. Many were extremely acrobatic. *Passing was very good after game 1, and not that bad in game 1. Defense was pretty strong, too. *Hagerty really hit the ball. They aren't keeping correct stats. She didn't have an attack error, if I'm thinking of the correct play. *Hoosiers really needed to win game 1, methinks. *Gibbemeyer's getting better every match. I would have picked Lauren to be the frosh to start off hot, rather than Dieter (who was solid again this afternoon). She may very well finish that way. *Jones was hardly set in game 1, it seemed, and unstoppable thereafter. A terrific match.

Several things are going to hurt Gopher attendance this year: *There's much less parking because of the stadium construction. *Sunday afternoon matches are the pits. People like their bleeping football -- and it was another beautiful day. Maybe it will help that the Vikings are awful again this year. As are the Gophers (football team). *Still scant coverage, but that's never going to change. *The hot dogs have been remarkably bad this season. I think they may be _last_ season's leftovers. By the way, we're giving away the advantage we'd have with Michigan next week by playing that match on Sunday, too. That one's for TV, however?

By Gibbemeyer getting better, I mean offensively. She's been pretty damned good otherwise all season.

No, Gopher football plays OSU on Saturday which is why the volleyball team is playing Sunday.

The mistake they make is thinking there's some great loss to the football program. I know _some_ volleyball fans might choose volleyball over football, but most aren't going to the football game regardless.
It stinks.

At Wisconsin's cardinal & white scrimmage, Waite said one of the reasons the school doesn't want to schedule vb and fb the same day is because it's difficult to schedule the needed security folks for the afternoon and the evening.

That could be the case here, too. I don't know. But they've done it in the past. The cynic in me believes the primary reason is because they (the athletic department) want the focus to be football.
Regardless, it's not been a good thing for attendance.
It's nice having the band, too, which might not be the case if they're playing at the same time.

Here at Illinois FB and VB on the same day is pretty common. I would think Mike Hebert having coached here would have remembered that. We usually habe BIGGER crowds on home FB days. Especially if it's a day FB game. Results for night FB games are somewhat mixed. Football is the money maker and will always get a bigger push by the AD than VB but there's no reason why they can't promo VB at the FB game. Especially when you've got as succesful a VB program as you guys do.

Stanford and Cal have Thursday-Friday home games if either has a home football game on Saturday, which, since there are two programs, usually happens. Think it hurts attendance quite a bit. They are thinking of pushing Sunday afternoon vball matches, but Minnesota results sound discouraging and there are two pro teams in this area.

If the football game next week were during the day I'm sure the volleyball match would be held on Saturday. But since it is a night game they moved it to Sunday.
I agree with Ruffda that the volleyball fans aren't big football fans. At least not enough to choose football over volleyball.
And it's tough to draw fans on a nice fall Sunday afternoon when you know you don't have many left. Kinda the Southern California effect.
