And looking at the Pac-10 players of the week so far, it seems as though it's dead on with who I think are the top teams in the Pac. Stanford is a step above everyone else so they have 2 players of the week and the USC and Washington come next with one. Also, it seems as though Klineman is taking stanford by storm. Barboza has gotten no accolades this season. Klineman is a great asset to the team offensively, especially after losing Kristin Richards. and Ailes seems is a much better defender than Fishburn who either has a perfect dig/pass or totally way off the mark. Ailes is taking over the defense that Richards produced. So basically Stanford ot two for one, which is what makes them a better team than last year. I CAN'T WAIT FOR STANFORD TO COME TO WASHINGTON!!!! that is going to be THE match of the Pac-10 season. Washington's 2 year home winning streak will be on the line against the top team in the country (lets not debate nebraska)...Hec Ed is going to be ROCKING!

Sorry, but this is a public forum, and if you throw out an assertion, and then wave your hands and say, "but let's not debate that", well, good luck with that. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that Stanford is the top team in the country, because they have not played Nebraska, which is a team that has plenty of evidence to be one of the candidates for the position. The only evidence we have is the chain of common opponents. That evidence itself is very sparse and not definitive, but such as it is, it suggests that Stanford is not the top team in the country. At this point Nebraska is the top team in the country, but as you say, let's not debate it. In any case, even though their last meeting was on neutral territory, it was an extremely lopsided Stanford victory. In the time since then, Stanford has maintained or upgraded their team. Washington, on the other hand, has either barely maintained or significantly dropped, depending on who you believe. I think Stanford vs. the LA schools will both be bigger matches than U-Dub.

The best team in the country is the team that wins the NCAA championship at the end of the season. Up until then, we can all debate on which teams are in the race to be the "best" team in the country.
Also, Stanford is clearly the favorite to win the Pac-10 title but until all matches have been played, there could be upsets and other things (such as injury) that could come along. For me, personally the best matches in Pac-10 will be when Stanford comes down to LA to play the UCLA and USC. Both are important matches that Stanford could not overlook, unlike the trip to Washington where Dunning could overlook WSU and prepare the team for the match-up against UW.

But the odds that Washinton will play them this year is pretty slim, so to Washington and many other Pac-10 schools Stanford is the toughest team they will face this year. and everyone knows Washington plays the best at home. Ask any team in the country where they wouldn't want to play and outside of Nebraska it's in Seattle. And the UCLA has signifigantly dropped their play so that match won't be nearly as good as the UW match, period. USC I can understand...

And it's not that hard to beat UCLA.... just focus on pin point offense since their defense is great. All the top teams in the Pac-10 have the defensive systems to handle whatever offense UCLA throws at them, which means they need to concentrate on their own offense to blast through the UCLA defense. It's not rocket science people.

Oh and I didn't say that LA schools aren't important... they are perhaps more important because if Stanford isn't on it's game it could come away with two losses over the weekend. I said that Stanford @ Washington will be the BEST match of the Pac-10 season simply because of the current history between the two teams and the fact that Washington is the only school in the Pac-10 that has a perfect record at home the last 2 seasons...and Washington always gets fired up to play Stanford, which is why I think it will be the BEST match...most important? no... most exciting? YES!

The best team in the country is the team that wins the NCAA championship at the end of the season. Up until then, we can all debate on which teams are in the race to be the "best" team in the country. Winning six matches in December - yes, that's one way to determine who is the best, and after December we will be able to look at that evidence and draw conclusions based on the results. However, in my post I was very deliberate to declare that my statements were based on the evidence available right now, and I even used the phrase "at this point" in describing my conclusion. Next week new evidence may very well give rise to different conclusions. Right now, all the evidence points to Nebraska as the top team.

The Huskies are as intimidating at home as anyone in the nation. Their HCA is certainly the best in the PAC10.
