Griffin opened the week with 14 kills on a .480 hitting percentage against Buffalo and then had an incredibly efficient match at Akron. Against the Zips, Griffin collected 18 kills on 22 attack attempts and committed just two attacking errors for a .727 hitting percentage. She landed seven of eight attack attempts in the first game of the match and all six of her attacks in the second game. For the week Griffin averaged 5.33 kills per game and a .596 hitting percentage.
This season Griffin is averaging 3.84 kills per game on a team-leading .317 hitting percentage.

Ohio had 3 players hit over .500 for the weekend, including Griffin, MB's Amanda Andersen and Megan Simons....Impressive wins over Less than average competition, including two games against Akron allowing less than 15 pts in each, 30-11, 30-14....great player, but also a phenomenal person. They really needed her to step up with that loss of the outside Herman??? Any news when she comes back?

Bobcats will be tough -- tougher -- if they can get their middle attack clicking. This is a positive sign.

Any news when she comes back? As I said in a previous post, Ohio is NOT a one-dimensional team. Melissa (and others) are certainly capable of stepping up. Check the box scores from the next two matches. Herman will certainly be in them. I thought she was still favoring her ankle over the weekend. When I mentioned it, she was quite adamant that she was nearly ready to return. It was clear in Buffalo that she was quite antsy to be in the match. No doubt Carlston is playing it safe, but she'll play when needed.

MAC fan here - you've got to admit that the competition wasn't too stiff in those two matches. Congrats to her for the recognition, but I'm thinking it would mean more if it came against better teams.

MAC fan here - you've got to admit that the competition wasn't too stiff in those two matches. Congrats to her for the recognition, but I'm thinking it would mean more if it came against better teams. Congratulations to her for a job well done. I didn't see her play, haven't spoken to anyone who did--and thirdly could care less what anyone thinks about it. Good for her to play so well against anyone and I'm sure those who selected her felt that she deserved the award--something she'll never forget (and her teammates and school will not either). To anyone who thinks it would have been "more impressive" against other competition, perhaps every player who gets POW for each week the rest of the year should sit down, size up the competition before playing the match and realize if she really wants to play that hard and get special recognition that will not make certain posters on VT happy.--C'mon Griffin--do it again!!
