Do want to say that San Jose State beat Arizona State, so they are at least decent, and it's apparent how Houston got 35 kills v. USC, simply very talented and athletic. Don't see too many OH who simply hit over the block. Clearly a team that could win v. anybody win the time comes.

How did Houston play against Michigan?...... just asking. So why did you, bomber, dodged my question on why is it there's little chance Hawaii will be playing Nebraska before the tournament as you claim? Did Nebraska decide not to play Hawaii this year and Wisconsin took their place instead?

Losing big to Nebraska (and Hawaii will) will unfortunately.....prove nothing.

There's little chance that the Wahine will be challenged again this year before the tournament. Huh? You mean, there's little chance that Hawaii will play Nebraska before the tournament? My bad....I'm so accustomed to Hawaii having a downhill schedule after mid September that I forgot they have a date to get demolished by Nebraska later this season.......sorry.

Whether or not Hawaii gets "demolished" by Nebraska, at least Hawaii scheduled Nebraska. Why didn't Wisconsin scheduled Nebraska too on their schedule?

The Badgers couldn't schedule Nebraska, they already had the powerhouse Gardner-Webb on their schedule. ;D

I know this has no relevance to this "discussion," but bomber and I both criticized playing Gardner-Webb at the time. The Badgers had them in the tournament because two area girls start for G-W, I am pretty sure. Also, Simpson and Dykstra didn't play, and JWack wasn't the libero in game three, so it wasn't like they were trying to set a school record for fewest points allowed (which they did until they played Columbia in LA).

The Badgers don't need to, Jesus or whatever your name is. They play in a "Big girls" conference, and by the time they're done with their season, they've played 10 games or more against Top 25 teams. And none of them have 5'10" middles or 5'8" outsides, like those that hang in the WAC.

The WAC is weak but you can't hold that against Hawaii. Even if they left, what other conference would have them? This is a very complicated issue involving football and politics and football and money and football and history and football and geography and football. Did I mention football?

The bows are coming along nicely. They've shown HUGE improvement from Day 1 of the season and I have a feeling the match at NMSU will be the launching pad for the rest of the season (as it was last year too).
The team looks much more composed than they did when I saw them at the Stanley in September. I like the backrow of Hittle, Otineru, and Kaaihue (and Lee off the bench). They are starting to remind me of the vintage Hawaii defensive teams. Individually, they are all solid passers, but seem to go through ruts more often than one would like. I expect that the passing will get better as they get more time together. If the passing isn't there, this team gets mediocre real quick.
Jaime was at her best last night. It didn't matter if the blockers were 5'10" or 6'5", Jaime was going WAY over the block and with serious heat. She displayed quite a few different shots and turned a few inside sets down the line with authority. If Jaime brings this attacking game every night (or at least on the big nights), Hawaii will be a very, very good team.
Otineru was solid. She hit smart and mixed up her shots (speed and placement) all night. Hittle had a couple big kills, but was otherwise kept in check. Hittle seems to play with much more confidence at Opposite and I'm glad Shoji made the change. She seems to be passing and defending better since the change as well.
Kaufman looks real good in the middle. Her athleticism and speed are so apparent when she is on the court. Clearly the most complete middle, Kaufman is always in position to attack and gives opposing defenses a reason to commit. Sanders had a couple nice kills but was otherwise handcuffed by low sets are reaching up for sets that were just out of reach. The Brandt-Sanders connection is not where it needs to be. The biggest concern is that the only play Brandt seems comfortable running with Sanders is the 1 in front of her ~ nothing behind the setter. So everytime Sanders goes out for a slide attack, the other team knows to block the crossing play to the middle or the high wide outside set. SJSU seemed to pick up on it last night after the first game. Hittle's crossing pattern was met with double and triple blocks after the first game. Brandt is going to have to get the confidence to set Sanders on the slide or back 1. While I feel bad for Gregory (always been a fan of her), it sure is nice to be able to go to the bench for a blocker with her skill and experience.
I like Brandt. I like her fire, her defense, and she nevers seems to be down. Her connections with Kaufman are wonderful and varied. Her high set to Houston is also getting more and more consistent. But it seems when Brandt tries to set the lower trajectory faster tempo set to the pins for Otineru and Hittle, the sets seem to die inside making it harder to convert. Otineru can punish the line and/or tool the block all night if the sets get out to the antenna.
I like Mafua's touch on the ball, real smooth, quick. I just wish I'd get to see her set more often. Unfortunately, I also think the teams needs to be with ONE setter right now. They need all the stability they can get and changing the setter from game to game will force the hitters to adjust and never get into a rhythm.
Overall, I like the progress this team is making. Keep plugging away Bows!
