With the talk of Murphy and Murrey and all the jewels Stanford seem to get, I was thinking of who the heck has been the #2 recruit and where they went. I can't even say who was the #2 recruits this millenium has been. Please correct me if I'm wrong; but I'm curious where did the #2 recruit go and the type of impact they had or have had at their respective programs.
2000: #1 - April Ross - USC (National Championship); #2 - _______
2001: #1 - Oganna Nnamani - Stanford (2 National Championship; Co-POY); #2 - _________
2002: #1 - Jen Saleamua - Nebraska (National Title Match); #2 - _______
2003: #1 - Kristin Richards - Stanford (National Championship), #2 - ________
2004: #1 - Sarah Pavan - Nebraska (POY, National Championship); #2 - ________
2005: #1 - Cynthia Barboza - Stanford (National Title Match); #2 - __________
2006: #1 - Megan Hodge - Penn State (Elite Eight), #2 - ________
2007: #1 Alix Klineman - Stanford; #2 - __________

I didn't realize that Stanford got the #1 recruit every other year this millenium. That means in 2008, the top recruit ain't going there....at least statistic show...:-)
But now that I think about it, Stanford has gotten the top recruit every other year, and either played in the title match or won the NCAA Title

I know that in 2005, Cynthia Barboza was #1 and Jordan Larson was #2....I'd say, she's doin better than Cynthia is, but others may disagree. 2006 Megan Hodge #1 and Janet Okobaaga was #2. Not living up to her rankings. 2007 Alix Klineman #1 and Texas freshmen star Juliann Faucette #2, now she's living up to her ranking and more. Juliann Faucette is amazing!.......Don't know about the rest of the years.....

I think it was Glass and Ladd who were the top 2 in their class and both ended up at Arizona.

Saleamua was the #1 pick in 2001, but then did not attend college at University of Hawaii... so how that works, I'm not sure.

And for 2004, it was Angie McGinnis who ended up at Florida.

They got the Top ranked player in the "odd"year. for the other years, they still scored a top 5 player like Katie Goldhan (#4 in 2002) and Janet O (#2 in 2006), the "worst" they did was 2004 when they ONLY got Kehoe who was ranked 10th in her class. Man, I do not want to hear anymore Stanford fans complaining about the tough admission to the school.

I got my info from volleyball magazine (they ranked the Fab 50 in 2001 and 2002) and prepvolleyball (from 2003 onwards) However, Saleamua was the Volleyball mag high school POY that year cos she set a new record for Kills in a championship game (57 kills !!)

I think even before Logan Tom, they had the concensus #1 recruits - started with '92 Wendell, '94 Folkl/Sharpley (#1/#2), '96 Walsh, '98 Sandrik.

Too bad that Arizona couldn't do anything really special like a National Title or at least a title match with Bre Ladd, Kim Glass, and Jennifer Abernathy....These three players were great...!

I thought it was Gysin that year. Can't confirm. Given that Pavan is from Canada, who was top US recruit that year?
