One would think that with all the height that Pepperdine has on its roster and the fact that Santa Clara has been hit with injuries, especially in the middle, that tonight's contest would be a blood bath in favor of the Blue and Orange. However, Santa Clara is keeping its post-season hopes alive with a 3-1 victory at the Leavey Center, winning 28-30, 30-24, 30-23, and 30-28.
Krista Kelley turned in a great performance from the left side, putting away 27 kills at a .350 rate, while Brittany Lowe chipped in 23 kills. Both outside hitters finished with a double-double, as Kelley had 21 digs, while Lowe saved 15 attacks. Crystal Matich directed the offense with 64 assists in the winning effort.
With attackers ranging from 6-2 to 6-6, you would think that the Waves would have a field day up at the net, both on offense and defense, espeically since the Bronco's middles are only 5-11 Lauren Dowd and 6-0 Nichole Clarke. Pepperdine only finished with eight blocks, same as Santa Clara.
The fourth game was pretty interesting, as Pepperdine held an 18-10 lead and it looked like it was going to a fifth game. However, Santa Clara clawed its way back and ended up winning by two points. They are still tied for first place with San Diego - you would have to imagine that the SCU team is regretting its loss to USF... but that's the way it falls sometimes.
Another great win for Santa Clara and hopefully they can keep up the momentum.

Pacific is big and slow. So why does she have them playing a very wide and deep perimeter defense? Middle back had her heels on the end line quite often - no way they can reach the middle of the court for any ball.

Evans was serving them off the court in game 1. Did that continue? Nina has to quit devising defenses for Pacific. It's just rude.

They must have a publicist. Pacific seems to work its way into so many threads.
