The second round of Big West conference match starts tonight and Cal Poly will take on Cal State Northridge at 7 PM at CSUN. Not going to go into too much details how I feel about CSUN's season so far. I just don't like it but I'll keep rooting for them. Just win Matadors and play hard. Maybe just maybe you'll pull off an upset tonight.
an excerpt from the Daily Sundial(09/26), CSUN hoped to stage a repeat performance on Saturday against Cal Poly, but the Matadors quickly found out why the Mustangs are ranked 20th in the nation, as Cal Poly swept the Matadors by scores of 30-23, 30-22 and 30-18.
Kepler had a team-high nine kills while hitting .400, but the Matadors as a team only hit .108. Hupp and Wright both had 16 assists and junior Kelley Hanson had 10 digs.
For Cal Poly, junior opposite Kylie Atherstone had a team-high 13 kills. Junior outside hitter Ali Waller had 11 kills and red-shirt sophomore outside hitter Gaby Rivera added 10 kills.
With the season now into the conference stage, Stork says the Matadors are improving in both their blocking, as evidenced by 21 blocks against Santa Barbara, and in their offense.
Stork said during pre-season tournaments he noticed a couple of areas needing improvements.
"One was we weren't blocking enough balls. And, we weren't generating enough point scorers," Stork said.
Good luck Matadors!!!

You have to admit that San Luis Obispo is a nice little town in an attractive setting. (Of course, Arcata is nicer.) I was impressed with Cal Poly when they came here; they were very good defensively (vs WSU, CalPoly had BS 1 BA 33 BE 1 TOTAL TEAM BLOCKS: 17.5, 75 defensive digs).
San Luis Obispo and Prescott, AZ seem like they have some things in common. Maybe a common "feel"?? Small, "older" western town??

Crap...CSUN lost to Cal Poly in four games and I really though we had something going when we won the first game 30-19 it would carry over to the next games...which it sorta did in streaks but Cal Poly played better and most of all more of a solid unit winning the next three games(30-26, 30-27, 30-23).
It suddenly dawned on me as to why CSUN is having an excrutiating season(ok, I'm exaggerating) and it's because the 6-2 offense is not working especially when they're stuck in a bad rotation. Maybe as someone who's just a bystander in the bleachers and has picked up that this offense is not rolling along as it should be(Coach Stork tried it in '04 with not so good results and went back to a 5-1 offense and the team played better and last year he went back to a 6-2 offense with good, not great results) time to think of putting this on the shelves.
Anyway the Matadors played hard when they were on a roll but when things got tight for them especially when KAYLA WRIGHT is not on the floor to direct the offense the team starts to fall flat, not only that with so many substitutions it cuts into the teams rhythm and tempo. Overall they played okay and didn't seize the opportunity when they were in reach to tie or take over the lead against Cal Poly. On the other hand Cal Poly played good...maybe a little awesome at times and they were the better team last night especially when there was long rallies where they ended up winning most of them.
This match is in the bag. Time to think of the Gauchos and beating them tonight in three hours.
Matadores de buena suerte!

I would bet my entire 401K that, if it were legal by NCAA rules, if Jeff Stork were to strap on the some spandex and hair scrunchies and set for his team, they would win the NCAA championship in December.
